OCEAN CITY, MD – (January 6, 2016): After a national search which yielded dozens of applicants, the selection of the next city manager in Ocean City has been made. In a unanimous vote, the Ocean City Council approved the hiring of Douglas Miller as the new City Manager, who will begin his position with the town on February 8.
Miller comes to Ocean City from Aberdeen, MD, where he has held the position of City Manager since 2006. Serving municipalities in Maryland for the length of his career, he also held town manager positions in La Plata and Snow Hill. A credentialed manager with the International City and County Management Association (ICMA), Miller has also served as president, vice president and secretary treasurer of the Maryland City and County Management Association, as well as several committees of the Maryland Municipal League.
With a desire to return to the Eastern Shore, Miller intends to use his prior experience and professional knowledge to return to where he started his municipal career. “I somewhat began my career in Ocean City, as then City Manager Tony Barrett and Kathy Mathias helped me break into the business,” Miller said. “I have had the pleasure of working with many people from Ocean City in different capacities over the years and have always been impressed by their professional capability and attitude toward public service. I’ve always had a special kindship to Ocean City and I’m thrilled to accept the unique opportunity to manage the needs of our residents and visitors.”
Miller, who has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Baltimore, is a firm believer in strategic planning, with strong knowledge of Maryland government. “Doug’s background made him the ideal choice for the position of city manager,” commented Ocean City Council President Lloyd Martin. ”He is familiar with Maryland government and has experience in both tourism and emergency management. He has improved the financial position of each municipality he has worked and values customer service. We believe he will be a strong leader, a team player and we look forward to his arrival and the beginning of a bright new era in Ocean City.”

Welcome Doug! Sounds like he has good experience and local knowledge.
I'm sure Ricky is bummed out.
2:40 "Bummed out", seriously doubt that. He's still in control, but no longer bothered with the day to day BS. Anyone is better than Recor, what a loser he turned out to be. Only bad thing about Doug, he's VERY close to Dennis "spend and borrow" Dare.
This is a slap in the face to all city employees and qualified locals that applied for that job. Ocean City Town Clowns you are a joke and need to be voted out of office!!
7:13 The three that applied internally, have NO management experience!!!! End of story. So let's not go there. Good luck Doug!
New City Manager commented he is the happiest person in the room. I guess so he just landed a job with excellent benefits, take home vehicle, take home phone and a $155,000 a year salary.
