Salisbury, MD – Wicomico County has partnered with the Maryland Food Bank this holiday season in hosting a County-wide employee food drive. The goal of the aptly named 1-Ton Challenge, is to collect one ton of food for the Maryland Food Bank. The drive began Nov. 2 and runs through mid-December.
Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver has asked all employees, “to help feed our hungry neighbors this year. If each employee donates 4 pounds of food, we can contribute over 1 ton of food to help those in need.” According to the Maryland Food Bank, over 45,000 individuals living on Maryland’s Eastern Shore are considered to be “food insecure,” meaning they are not sure from where their next meal will come. One in five of these individuals are children and seniors.
The Maryland Food Bank is a nonprofit hunger-relief organization, leading the movement to end hunger throughout Maryland. For more than 35 years, the Maryland Food Bank has partnered with communities across the state to distribute food to individuals and families in need. The Food Bank is currently distributing more than 100,000 meals per day—nearly 37 million meals annually. For more information on the Food Bank, please visitwww.MDFoodBank.org.

Not if the Mayor's office finds out about it! My friends are organizing a drive to give stuff to the homeless people of Salisbury and the Mayor's office FLAT OUT TOLD THEM THEY COULDN'T DO IT! That call came in YESTERDAY AFTERNOON!
With the low pay for some county employees, you should help them out rather than request they give to many who receive food stamps, eat in shelters or feed by church's.
