If anybody contacts you by phone or via your computer about your computer needing any sort of technical assistance or repair, it's a scam. They can be very insistent and persuasive, but don't be drawn in. There is a group of Indian scammers operating all over the country from pop-up phone banks, claiming to be from Microsoft. They're not. They want remote access to your computer, claiming that they're going to fix it. Instead, they'll download your important data, then insert a virus, for which they'll demand payment to remove. Be warned!
When will people realize that a computer is no different then anything else you would get service on???
If you didn't ask for assistance/repair or even know there was a problem with your computer then there typically isn't one!!!
If some stranger in dirty coveralls knocked on your front door and told you that your car's fan belt was broken and you needed to pay him so that he could fix it, would you do it??? NO!!! Apply that same logic to someone showing up to fix your "running" fridge... Or your A/C... Or your dishwasher... So WHY would anyone fall for this???
People deserve to get swindled if they don't have the common sense to not trust a stranger to "fix" something they didn't know was "broke" to begin with...

They've made computers too easy to use. Even idiots can use them.
