OCEAN CITY, Md. —Body cameras for Maryland police officers was a big topic Thursday at the Maryland Association of Counties Conference in Ocean City.
County and municipal leaders are learning about the benefits and limitations of body cameras, which some consider great tools to protect citizens and police officers.
Eighty percent of Maryland law enforcement agencies are considering whether officers should wear body cameras.
St. Mary's County Sheriff Tim Cameron said his agency is proceeding cautiously as it finds out more about the technology.

If they ain't doing anything wrong what do they have to hide. We need these cameras to protect us from the cops.
^ go hide under the covers if your so scared...
I am 100% for the cameras, no question. To play devils advocate for one moment though, police departments are going to be leasing these cameras from private companies. The video from the cameras uploads to servers owned by the camera provider. Police will pay for the cameras, the storage of the data, the deletion of the data, compliance with federal and local regulation, and administering court requests for video evidence. One might think that this is to make sure that their is no police tampering, however it seems that most departments starting this program claim that it would be "impossible" for them to manage(even though they have always handled and stored thousands and thousands of physical objects for later use as evidence) There are already cases all over the country where department heads chose camera providers and later received kickbacks and/or "jobs" with the camera providers company after leaving the force.
Its like every solution the government offers us is lose lose. In order to protect ourselves from a more and more radical police state, we are being forced to put in high gear what I see as the "Police industrial complex" How have we let ourselves get to this point. It's so sad.
