The Mayor’s assertion that Wicomico County has withdrawn its request for the land donation associated with the Henry S. Parker complex expansion is not true.
The county has not withdrawn its request. In a letter dated September 4, 2014 from Salisbury City Council President Jake Day, he advised that the City Council unanimously supported the project, subject to certain conditions.
Those conditions were acceptable to the county and during the ensuing 10 months, the county has worked diligently to meet the conditions and has also arranged for funding for the project by obtaining a $1million dollar grant from the State of Maryland. The county has pledged $450,000 from its Tourism Fund and, preliminary engineering has been completed wherein the county has exceeded State requirements for storm water management, forest conservation, Paleo Channel protection and other environmental matters.
The USSSA World Series kicks-off in Wicomico County on July 15th with the Henry S. Parker complex serving as the tournament headquarters. An estimated $20million (direct /indirect spending) is expected to be generated over the course of the tournament from area restaurants, hotels, the purchase of gasoline, entertainment and other amenities.
We are still fully prepared to continue this collaborative effort with the city under the original conditions put forward by the Salisbury City Council. The Parker expansion is a significant opportunity to enhance our citizen’s quality of life and also stimulate further economic activity.

You mean the mayor was untruthful? Why that's just hard to believe.
Typical Jimmy trying to swindle the County!
Just build it somewhere else, there is plenty of open farm land in the county.
What the hell is wrong with that man? He's your mayor and is dumb as a brick!
This is Pollitt-Mackes buffoonery that should be dropped and forgotten.
Bob is trying his best to provide economic recovery for ALL citizens, and the mayor is going to screw this project up and then blame Bob for his (Ireton's) repeated failures.
So the Mayor speaks for the County Executive now? What is the Mayor doing? What kind of miscommunication happened here?
Really? That's funny, because here's what Bobby Culver's lackey told the city administrator:
“Hey Tom, this is Wayne Strausburg … If the mayor is going to blackmail us with Henry Parker, tell him he can keep Henry Parker, we have other alternatives, and frankly we’re not going to engage the city any further until we have a new mayor.”
Read that again - "Tell him he can keep Henry Parker, we have other alternatives"
Bobby Culver lied. Again. Get used to it.
7:34 perhaps you should read your quote again. "If the mayor is going to blackmail us." Does the mayor coming out with this press release mean he is admitting to blackmailing the County???
Chuck Cook
Yeah, there may be other locations within the county to build this, but the infrastructure (roads, water, sewer, etc.) is already in place at the Naylor complex.
Say what you want about these softball tournaments. Gary Mackes went through a long planning process to bring this revenue to Wicomico County. I disagreed with many things that Mackes put forth, however he and his personel hit a grand slam with this vision.
7:34 is exactly right. Read Culver's letter. Jeez, you people are so ignorant.
So...7:34 writes a comment, and then comes back at 8:45 to write what a great comment that was. Brilliant!!
8:37 - Yes, the USSSA is a fantastic event for the County in general. An incredible influx of revenue for our local businesses.
You not so brilliant 9:16, not everyone on here is a Culver minion.
Jimmy throws another hissy fit. Extra, extra boy blunder screws another deal. So sick of that leftist loser.
Ireton is the gift that keeps on giving. You couldn't write a SNL skit better than what he puts out.
