Passing of Former Chief Leslie Payne

Another notable loss in our community is one of former Salisbury Police Chief Leslie Payne. He not only served the City of Salisbury for more than 20 years but also served in the Criminal Justice Academy at Wor-Wic Community College for many years.

He leaves behind many loving family members, including wife, Barbara Holt Payne, and stepdaughter Linda Hamilton, actress most famous for her roles in The Terminator movies and Beauty & The Beast tv series.

Chief Payne will be laid to rest next Wednesday at the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church cemetery near Marion Station, in Somerset County.

I never knew Chief Payne when he was the Chief of Police, but I knew him while he was at ESCJA.A more knowledgeable law enforcement person I never knew. When he was a young police officer he was so astute that he perceived problems before they actually occurred. He explained to us that it wasn't anything mystical, but instead an ability to see problems forming, which enabled him to ADDRESS them before they occurred.I hope that makes sense. He also told us that within a short period of time he could tell if a new student would make a good police officer, and that astronomically high test scores did not automatically determine who would be good on the street and who would'nt.

Good man worthy of honor and remembrance. Served when Salisbury was a great place to live. God's peace and comfort to his family during this time.

If your from Salisbury when Linda was in school you would know that there was a twin sister Leslie. Wondering why there was no mention of her here. Not sure that was right.
