WASHINGTON — The “free-range parents” who were accused of child neglect for allowing their two kids to roam free through Silver Spring ran afoul of Child Protective Services again on Sunday.
Danielle and Alexander Meitiv’s two children were taken into the custody of Child Protective Services after someone called about two unattended children near Fenton and Easley Streets in Silver Spring, says Paul Starks, of the Montgomery County Police. Officers got to the scene, called CPS and say they were told to take the children, ages 6 and 10, to CPS offices.
Our partners at NBC Washington say Child Protective Services spokeswoman Mary Anderson confirms that CPS is following up on this.

Good, you cant let defenseless kids go unprotected when this country is full of PREDATORS.
That's what they do.
I bet the idiot parents would be screaming who kidnapped and killed my children.
Apparently from what I've read there is a group or groups of these "free range parents". Why has this whole thing not been shut down, these two kids were ages 10 and 6 and were a mile from home in the park, and were simply told to return home by 6:00 PM they should never have custody of these children. Do these parents not hear & read the news and the number of children each year increases! This is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9:18, 9:53 and 10:21 twenty years ago this was the normal and they had as many predators back then as they have now. no it is not outrageous. it is simply a different way of raising children and ill bet it is the opinion of many. So call off the CPS goons
Parents can assess how mature their children are and whether they can travel short distances on their own. As far as predators, there probably are no more than in past years, just that the media reports it and tries to scare people. Just educate your kids.
11:38 you should really work at educating yourself of current crime statistics.
12:07 like this?
Violence Against Children 2-17 is going down too (and not just because we are helicoptering. Crime is down grown men and women too, and we don’t helicopter them):
Physical Assault: down 33% 2003 – 2011
Rape, attempted or completed: down 43% 2003 – 2011

12:47 One child kidnapped and murdered = ONE TOO MANY. It is much more difficult to be a good parent than a bad parent. Good parents are accountable. Until your statistics are 0% I will continue to be a good parent.
The majority of kidnappings of children are by a family member/relative and occurs within 1/4 mi. from home. They are safer at the park a mile away.
2:56 just because what you think is a good parent doesn't match with what another parent considers to be a good parent does not give CPS the right to step in. you do what you want with your kids and leave us alone. Smothering your kids does not teach them how to survive
It is against the law in Md.
