Is this fair? This man who has a criminal background is being charged with gun possession after shooting two men who forced their way into his home and said they were armed.
A homeowner who shot two intruders who broke into his home has been charged with gun possession.
Harold Williams, 42, of Fayetteville, North Carolina shot the two men, Roy Lee Hawk, 27, and Martize Douglas, 23, who said they were armed, as they forced their way into his home on Friday evening.
Both men were injured in the incident, as Hawk on Saturday was listed in critical condition and Douglas was listed in serious condition.
Williams was not harmed during the incident.
Police said the homeowner is a convicted felon and is not supposed to be in possession of a gun – he has since been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Common sense ain't that common anymore.
While it is unfortunate that he was robbed, I do believe this is fair. The law is the law. If you are a convicted felon, you should not posses any weapons.
Laws are laws, yes it is fair. I am glad he got to defend himself, but the police are right in charging him, and he knows it.
Is an leo charged for speeding after he races to a call many times over the speed limit? Or if the leo caused an accident? The home owner should receive a medal or compensation for taking criminals of the street....not punished!You dont punish people for defending their lives.

STUPID STUPID. I feel after like 15 years ANYONE should be ale to have their record expunged if no other crimes are committed and they have good jobs and home and paying taxes and no more than one felony. The push is on the way to get this to happen and the sooner the better as many getting out of jail trying to do the right thing and live right can't do it as nobody wants to give them a second chance and that is why so many ends back on the streets after so long and all that does is make our taxes go up and up.
Kinda funny how they have voted for FELONS upon getting out of jail to be able to vote right away now...all for the votes ?? Can vote again...but can't get a job where does that make sense. But I guess if it feels good and gets a vote that is all that matters.
This is a perfect place for Jury Nullification! There was a post here the other day about it...I followed up with a couple more internet searches to learn more....
Think about it - you can use Jury Nullification topics to get out of Jury Duty as prosecutors don't want people on the jury that know the authority jurors have.....or you can serve on the jury and make sure that people charged with BS violations are not convicted!
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6!
He made a mistake.
He didn't kill them.
All men should be able to protect their homes. Felon or not! A felon should be able to have a weapon in his home or on his property. But if he gets caught in public the consequence should be way more then it is now. Some felons made mistakes twenty years ago and its their only mistake. And a felon is a felon in public. At home he is daddy!

Felon or not. A man does his time that was sentenced by a judge then he has done his time. A mans home is his. His family looks to him for financial support and protection. I completely agree that if a felon is home he should be able to own a fire arm of any kind if he is no longer on paper. And if that person leaves his property and ventures into the public with a weapon then he should be held liable for his actions. And the punishment far more severe.
laws are laws? what fools the laws are whatever the rich and powerful want them to be. If you were rich you wouldn't have to worry about the law. just look at how much our current resident in the white house breaks the law, and lets not get into the clintons! there are to sets of laws ones for them and ones for you slaves/fools!
note,the law is law, if you are a Felon use a crossbow, works good for protection and you have broken no laws. If you have a tax problem you could become a felon, if you keep your bank deposits under 10000 you could become a felon.
