'Top Teacher' Winner Quits Due To Common Core

Honored as the “Top Teacher” by ABC’s “Live with Kelly and Michael” show, Stacie Starr was speaking at an education forum earlier this week when she dropped a bombshell.

The veteran teacher at Elyria High School in Elyria, Ohio, told a stunned audience Monday she will resign at the end of the school year because of the new federal Common Core system of standards and assessments adopted by her state, reported the local Chronicle-Telegram newspaper.

At the forum, which sought to help parents navigate the complex standardized testing system, Starr was talking about how special education has suffered under Common Core.

As she fought back tears, she disclosed she is leaving traditional education and plans ‘to teach in a different way.”

“I can’t do it anymore, not in this ‘drill ‘em and kill ‘em’ atmosphere,” she said. “I don’t think anyone understands that in this environment if your child cannot quickly grasp material, study like a robot and pass all of these tests, they will not survive.”

Her announcement was met with gasps of disbelief, the paper reported.

Teaching is getting harder, she said, because “the rules keep changing.”

Dubbing down students so that all are equal is an Obama Socialistic agenda. Most of today's students will never learn to balance a checkbook. Most can not even make change for a purchased item. If the cash registers shut down in McDonalds they are in trouble.

Common Core is not a federal program.
The standards are set by the states.

12:19 If Common Core is not a Federal program then if the States opt out, why do they loose Federal funding?

I worked with a new employee who was a graduate of a local high school in Somerset County. Her first job was to design a frame for a photograph. She asked me to help her with figuring out where 3/16's was on the ruler. Trying not to embarrass her, I asked her why she didn't understand the ruler and she said "I didn't go to college. They teach this in college."
True story from only two years ago.

I am a teacher because I love helping children learn and become better adults. With the current systems in place I wish I was able to leave. I would never teach in the "system" again.

All you have here are the ones who can't deal. Many people can deal. We are not created equal. Years ago when ditches were dug with shovels instead of machines. Less was required of the masses and there were more jobs that required little knowledge. Educating everybody to a same high level has always been more than difficult--it is impossible. There is a saying all children can learn. what is left off is what, how much, and how quickly.
