Chicago mayor to give Jackie Robinson West players championship rings

After Little League International announced its decision to strip Jackie Robinson West of the United States championship this week, Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel was among the first to send his support to the players, saying the city still considered them champions. Emanuel even went as far as to call the president and CEO of the Little League International Stephen Keener and ask for his decision to strip the kids of the championship title to be reversed.

Well, apparently those weren't just empty gestures designed to raise the hopes of some undoubtedly disappointed young athletes.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Emanuel will back up his words by going through with a ceremony honoring the team at next month's City Council hearing and presenting each member with a championship ring.

“Mayor Emanuel believes it is unfair for the organization to have punished the children who did nothing wrong,” said a mayoral source.

“These young men demonstrated tremendous character both on and off the field, and Chicago will honor them as the champions they are,” Emanuel said.

“The memories they created will last a lifetime, and so will the championship rings they have earned.”

May as well teach them to cheat when they are young , that's the way of the American public , am I right Al Sharpton?

Who are they fooling! Those kids knew they didn't live in the same district as the other players and vice versa just like the parents.
They are all cheaters. They willfully chose to ignore rules other teams did not ignore.

I guess it's no surprise Chicago Democrats are supporting a bunch of cheaters by trying to play on "it's for the innocent children" crap.
Lying and cheating is just a way of life for Democrats. It's their way of making things equal.

Am I the only person who knew where my friends lived when I was a child?

8:04 has it right - everyone is a winner in their eyes. Everyone should have stuff equally in their eyes. You're a winner - even if you come in last in their eyes!

teach 'em it's ok to cheat while they're young. NOT!

The NFL has given the youth the lesson. Cheating is ok, and if you're caught just deny any and all allegations. It will go away if you keep telling the same lie over and over.

Folks - calm down. You know the rules don't apply to members of the HOC (Historically Oppressed Classes).

Probably signing them up to vote too since he has an election in a few weeks.

Here's what we know: The President of the JRL and the team manager changed the boundary on the affidavit that was submitted to LL, and the District Administrator was complicit in not protesting the change. All three have been removed from their positions.

I absolutely agree that the kids at this age level know who plays in their league, and who plays in the surrounding leagues.

With that said, it's likely the league President and team manager announced that a boundary change had occurred, which they did, it's easy to see how the kids and their parents willingly bought into that lie.

Boundary changes do occur, and they have occurred locally as populations and neighborhoods increase or decrease. A change is not unusual.

While I am ready to see the three adults banished, I'm not yet ready to condemn the players. It's easy see that the kids and their parents would have trusted the adults in charge of the organization to be doing the right thing.

8:58 Wow. False accusations in the NFL versus a team, coaches, parents and kids who knew they were cheating. Nice. You must really work on your brain power, your intelligence is over 9000.
