Oxford University Press bans references to pigs in sensitivity effort

(JTA) — Oxford University Press has banned references to pigs and pork in its publications in order to avoid offending Jews and Muslims.

“Many of the educational materials we publish in the UK are sold in more than 150 countries, and as such they need to consider a range of cultural differences and sensitivities,” a spokesman for Oxford, the largest university press in the world, told the British media.

Eating pork is forbidden in Islam and Judaism.

When pigs fly i ll bow to this crap... political crazy fools....

Maybe we need to just destroy ALL pigs and hogs to appease the people who are offended... In Hitler's footsteps.

On the other hand, anyone who finds their published material offensive can just decide not to purchase it.

Instead some of those they are running from choose to murder those who publish something they dislike.

Incompatible approaches; won't end well.

How does this work with their culinary arts classes? So, any chef graduating from there has no idea what to do with a pork chop?

Quality in education, right there, folks!

Please check your chef's schooling before eating out... you could wind up with trichinosis.

It doesn't make sense to me to try to "appease" people who don't eat pork by pretending that pigs don't exist. No Jew that I know cares at all about references to pork or swine, just as long as it isn't on the menu.
This ban reaches too far into PC, actually creating conflict where it doesn't exist.

Will we rewrite all literature, back to Shakespeare and beyond to become so infinitely PC?

9:10, amen! I know a lot of Jewish people, too, and not one of them would be offended by references to pigs or swine (unless, of course you were name-calling people that!)

One of my friends is a researcher and his last project involved pigs! He keeps kosher, too.

Oxford Press has to be off its meds.

Representatives of the Jewish and Muslim communities told the British media that the ban was unnecessary.

Put all Muslims on an Island where there is nothing but pork running around see what they eat.
