SHA Revises Project Costs Downwards by $30 Million; Meets Project Spending Targets

As the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) continues to ramp up the number of its ongoing projects to new record highs each month (see this previous post), StateStat has been monitoring spending on projects to make sure that they are in line with the amounts originally awarded for each project’s contract. Even as the number of SHA’s projects increased to another new record high in May, the agency kept projects’ funding levels at target (no greater than 108 percent of the total award amount). As seen in the chart below, 96 percent of project spending in May was under this target. This represents a record high since data tracking began in July 2013. What’s more, from June to July of 2014 alone, SHA revised downwards the total costs of its active projects by over $30 million.
