SALISBURY HEROIN DEALER SENTENCED TO TWENTY YEARS IN PRISON

On August 20, 2014, Arnold Darnall Miles, Sr., age 48, of Wicomico County, Maryland, was convicted and sentenced on one count of possession with the intent to distribute heroin. A Wicomico County Circuit Court judge sentenced Miles to the maximum sentence of 20 years in the Maryland Division of Corrections. The first 10 years of that sentence represented a mandatory minimum, non-parole eligible sentence based upon Miles’ status as a subsequent offender. Miles had previously been convicted of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana in 2006, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a narcotic in separate cases in 1992. Miles’ new conviction represents his sixth drug related conviction and eleventh criminal conviction since 1986.

Miles had been pending charges related to a drug investigation conducted by members of the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit and members of the Salisbury Police Department’s Safe Streets Unit. Investigators from those agencies stopped Miles on March 19, 2014, for speeding. After noting that Miles was extremely nervous, investigators asked for assistance from a K-9 officer. A K-9 unit from the Delmar Police Department responded to assist and, after a brief scuffle with Miles, investigators discovered 47 baggies of heroin concealed in Miles’ New York Yankees baseball cap. Another baggie of heroin was found in Miles’ pocket after his arrest.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit, the Salisbury Police Department’s Safe Streets Unit and Delmar Police Department for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked Assistant State’s Attorney James L. Britt who prosecuted Miles.

Addicts would have gotten it regardless of this man. I wonder how many violent offenses he has. He is probably serving more time than people who have shot others. That's a big problem.
