I hear the Captain James L. Jester on the ambulance today... Paying a Captain to ride the ambulance and letting his subordinates run the shift???

Why not he is getting paid to be an EMT. They also made a paramedic officer ride the ambulance all the time before they forced him out of the department. If that was the case then all the officers right up to the Chief should have to ride shifts on the ambulance. They pretend they are a real fire department and that is what some real fire departments do.

I saw a video posted on facebook where a city police officer used the Salisbury fire Department ladder truck to have someone dump a bucket of ice water on his head while someone video taped it for the ice bucket challenge. I also saw a citizen do the exact same thing. Does anyone think this is acceptable?

There are SPD officers who are also SFD volunteer members. What's the big deal. Oh and why do you say a citizen. Last I checked the volunteers don't have to wear uniforms just to be up at the station.

He is getting paid extra to oversee a shift... Does the City Manager pick up trash? No, it's not his job!

I just saw a life*ambulance flying down main street with no lights on but the sirens blaring and they were blowing intersections . WTH !!

The officer in question was not a volunteer event and the civilian is also not a volunteer that's what the big deal is

Joe ans all you readers please respond- according to the latest census SALISBURY is 55% white and 45% other ethnic minorities. What is the racial makeup of the SFD? Appears to me that this is another old boys club. This is on both career and volunteer sides. Time for a NAACP and US federal civil tights investigation!!!

There is diversity in the department. Truth is there has been paid firemen since almost the beginning. There will always be paid firemen. It helps to keep your insurance rates down. So you would be complaining when your rates go up. You will be paying one way or the other. So why not have them and have peace of mind that when you call you will get someone fast. The demographics of Salisbury does not lend itself to an all volunteer department. A great majority are renters, of which do not care enough to much of anything. Then there is a large population of seniors. The rest are your working class that would not be available during working hours. People have families, and want to spend time with them. These are just some reasons that there is a duty crew available to you the citizens. I am a firefighter/ paramedic, and I love my job. I am always trying to better myself by training and taking classes. The better I am, the better service I can provide to the citizens of Salisbury. Whether I am on a fire piece or in the back of the medic, I always try to give 110%. What is discouraging is day after day, reading the negative comments on here. It often makes me wonder why I stay. Many paramedics leave for better pay and to run less calls. The truth is many of them Salisbury because there are a lot of exciting calls and comradary. Instead of always complaining and bashing why do you not become a volunteer at one of the three stations. Truth is they could use more volunteers. We cannot do it with out them, and guess what they know they cannot do it without us.

Before you make allegations and call for an investigation to be done you need to do some investigating of your own.
1.) how many minorities I. This area are already certified firefighters or EMTs.
2.) how many minority applications for either employment or volunteer have the local fire departments received in the past 5 years.
3.) how many minorities have been denied employment or volunteer membership over the past 5 years.

I'm almost positive when you get those questions answered then your own questions will be answered.

This has got to be Jay Jester himself pissing and moaning on her. He hates the ambulance, but thinks it's ok to supervise them. Worthless POS.

He is getting paid to be an EMT and if you/he don't like it then carry your @ss back to Ocean City. By the way we don't have a city manager.

I know a black officer that was forced out due to racism.

I know a white officer that was forced out due to friendship to that black officer.

You are dealing with a racist administration right up to Rick Hoppes and Jim Ireton and nothing will be done about it. EEOC doesn't care. NAACP doesn't care. Shanie Shields doesn't care.

The racism and sexual harassment will continue.
