"I was born and raised here, and I wanted to bring something back," says Joshua Shores, one of the owners of Ocean City Brewing Company at 56th Street and Coastal Highway.
They have almost 18,000-square-feet of space that will include a full-service restaurant serving American pub fare.
The space also includes Oktoberfest-style tables where Shores hopes customers will make new friends.

Who in the world wants to try to enjoy a dinner at a community table with a bunch of drunks they don't know? What a lame idea this is. I hope I am not the only one that feels that way.
That's the good old eastern shore hospitality that we have come to enjoy on this blog. The owner isn't looking for locals with negative attitudes and no money to spend. This is designed for tourists.
Communal tables are all the rage in restaurants now because you can pack more people in a space.
I gave it up after college and have no intention of sitting at one now.
A terrible trend that needs to stop.
Tourist are Locals from some where.. I for one will not partake in a community meal... Want to bet he either changes or goes under...

Aren't the long picnic tables at the Roost considered communal tables? Never heard anyone there complaining.

Attraction for tourists and rich college kids. Quite a big plave with big selection makes you wonder how "reasonable" the prices will be. Also wondering where will those "rowdy patrons" go after leaving. Ride in a police car or passing out drunk on.the beach?
OCB - There is nothing in OC that is "reasonable". If you have to ask, you won't be drinking there….

If you sit at the bar at any restaurant/bar, you are sitting at a communal table, so I guess that none of you ever sit at a bar for a drink or appetizer. The most negative group of hillbillies I have ever seen,

4:22, Have sat at communal tables plenty of times at church and fundraising dinners along with a lot of other people. I have seen a lot of wealthy and influential people at dinners like this. According to your way of thinking this makes us all hillbillies.
Have eaten and drank at communal tables in beer halls in Germany and it was an enjoyable experience.
We ain't sitting with nobody but our own family, just like our weddings. Keep it in the family.
Communal tables are common in many cities at "foodie" restaurants. It is an a very bad emerging trend driven by profits.
Will they be selling beer, or just renting it to patrons?

What is wrong with profits? I though that was the republican way - make money! It's not emerging, has been around for centuries. In contemporary times, it has been common for restaurants to have one communal table in with the mix with traditional tables for the past 20 years but the eastern shore is just catching up with the res of the country. Same old song and dance. Y'all said Starbucks ain't gonna make it cuz we ain't paying $3-4 for no cup of coffee.

I am looking forward to going to this place and I wish them success. I hope they open soon.
We don't do communal tables either at restaurants. I would rather pay more. It works for Chicken and Dumplings but not for the unique fare this place will offer.

YAY!!! Another bar full of drunks replaces a respectable family beach retail store.
I don't foresee this cheap setup being able to compete with the established long-time area bars that are more attractive for alcoholics to visit.
