As Ronald Reagan used to state;
'Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago - if you aren't then vote for me'.
My advice to all of Wicomico's citizens - the time for change is way overdue and I encourage all of our readers to get engaged. Let the employment numbers speak for themselves.

I don't know if these reports make a dang bit of difference. Just like the rest of the country, wages have stagnated for years, while companies raise their prices. Businesses close. Taxes climb. Infrastructure crumbles while public officials loot the treasury. All the while, the same theiving officials TELL us that "things are improving", or the "recovery is well under way". I WAS going to say that they say these things as if most people can't read, write, or see what is happening before their very eyes. Then I thought, well, thats probably true.
Otherwise, how the heck can we have six years of 7-15% unemployment, fees, fines, and taxes climbing like they are on a rocket booster, health care in shambles (and where IS that $2500 we were supposed to "save"?), world leaders LAUGHING at our situation and incompetence (substitute "impotence" if you like), "leaders" OPENLY flaunting the law, and a host of other disheartening facts?
We are "improving", huh? In "recovery", right? My ace.
In history, one can often point to an event or a period, a "tipping point", if you will, where a particular culture/civilization began to crash and burn. Unable to reverse the decline.
Welcome to our tipping point.
Keep cheering.
Tuesday June 3rd at 6pm the county council will vote on the budget, show up to show your support for a tax incease. Ladies and gentleman Wicomico County needs to raise taxes and the council members need your support on this tax increase.
10:06 - our tipping point occurred when the Democrats took over congress (opposite of progress) in 2010...it picked up steam when the communist in chief took over a couple of years later.....
10:45 What an idiot statement. The need to raise taxes comes from the incompetence of those in charge. Taxes should be LOWERED, not raised.
YOU won that ELECTION Joe. Everybody voted for you. This is what they get for rigging the ELECTION.
I simply do not understand why the County Executive doesn't declare an economic disaster. Everyone knows that the crime is rampant, abundance of foreclosures, heck - I have never seen this many foreclosures in my entire life. And yet they continue to budget monies while the revenue streams continue to deteriorate. Am I missing something? Come on let's get with it, we need some big things to happen and it simply is not happening.
Nothing but EBT cards, panhandlers, homeless. Talk about Salisbury being the BURY, they got the name wrong as Salisbury should be referred to as BURIED.
If I can ever sell my house, I'm out of this spend and tax town!
10:45 Hope you're trolling. If not, please, kindly, exit this state, or better yet, the country.
I have lived here for almost 60 years and this is the worse I have witnessed in my lifetime. There used to be an industrial base, but now there isn't much of anything except fast food joints.
DUCKTAPE PATCH WORK AGAIN.
I'm still unemployed!! Thank you Jim Ireton.
Only taxpayer paid employees getting bonuses,wage increases around here.
Tuesday nights vote on the tax increase will be four to two
I wonder if the politicos will go out to eat and drink on our dime before or after they meet?
Do you mean "comatose" since "comatose" isn't a word?
@10:06
The rest of the country is not in the piss poor situation as wicomico county. There are plenty of areas that are thriving and even with the leftist policies of O'Malley, there are areas of MD that are prospering. Wicomico county is still on a downward spiral and it is a result of poor leadership from the elected officials and failure of the residents to do anything other than blame everyone but themselves for the situation they face. Do I agree with the increased regulations, permit and fees, NO! It will never be as it was in the 70's. Someone once said to the starving people in africa "move to where food grows". Unless you work for the government or own a business, wicomico county is nothing more than slave labor economy based on retail and fast food.
I want to know why the county council isn't questioning the executives office P card spend, is it that they are just ask quilty?
To 10:45
Are you off your rocker. If there are less people working in Wicomico today than there were a year or two years ago, then it only makes sense for the taxes to go down. One would think that the rational answer is to decrease taxes, not raise them.
The problem is that - first you have to admit there is a problem. Wicomico's GDP is not growing. Only leaders can make this happen and we don't have anyone at the helm.
The readers can't say that Joe didn't try and warn them. I remember vividly throughout the Mayoral campaign about Joe's economic vision. He is the only one that offered up a viable economic plan. Look at what has transpired since the last Mayoral election. Nothing but handouts, EBT cards, welfare, subsidized housing, free cell phones, and crime.
Responding to 3:17 - Comatose certainly is a word. I see it and read it all the time at the hospital.
Dr. Bartkovich
Once Wicomico turned into a socialist State it is over. The current administration simply thinks that raising taxes will answer all woes. It seems as though Pollitt's mentality is to tax our Co. into prosperity. But look what has happened, industry dried up, and people are abandoning homes. Salisbury reminds me of a miniature Detroit.
This city and county may well be mismanaged, but blaming your own unemployment on the mayor or Rick Pollitt is ridiculous and makes you sound like a whining child. Get educated or learn a trade and make something of yourself.
So true 9:52 what a bunch of cry babies. Make me sick. o somethinng to make it better. There is no magic wand. Just work
