A Letter To The Editor: Fenwick Inn WARNING to your Readers

Joe,

Just wanted to write for you to warn your readers to avoid the Fenwick Inn in ocean city at ALL costs. More so the disabled folks.

Two weeks ago My Wife and I made reservations to stay there from June 2- June 5th for our 31st Wedding Anniversary and stated Wife needed to be on lowest level due to handicapped reasons and requested a king size bed. They stated no issues with low level and then advised us a $10 fee for larger bed than listed. For Real ?? My Wife spoke to them on the phone twice to confirm all the details of our stay and all was okay.

Well on the way to Ocean City on Monday we got a call from the Fenwick stating that they could not work with my Wife's needs and would have to place her in a higher level and was very nasty with her about it and could give no reasons for not letting us know sooner than now, when we spoke to them several times and all was okay.

When we got to the Ocean we stopped at the Fenwick to see where we stood and the lady at the desk get very rude with My Wife and at that point I requested since they could not meet our needs for my Wife as needed due to handicapped needs that we needed our deposit and would go elsewhere.

We ended up at the Carousel Hotel 118th Street. We spoke to them about what happened at the Fenwick Inn and fact it was our Anniversary. They went above and beyond meeting our needs and we ended up staying there.

But it seems that the folks who run the Fenwick Inn cares less about disabled folks and could care less about their needs.Just let your readers know whatever they are told by those at the Fenwick Inn. DO NOT believe what they tell you and be warned about it upfront.

This seems unfair to the Fenwick Inn. I don't know about the rude part, but they don't even have rooms on the first floor. I'm pretty sure the Carousel doesn't either. Did they ask for a handicapped room? All hotels are required to have them.

Would'nt the Better Business Bureau also be a good place to report this?

Sure they could careless this time of year, they have a list of people who will pay whatever they want for a room!

That place is nasty! Thats why the rooms are so cheap! Yuck!

Good folks, never had any issues there...They really shine for winter patrons especially weekend get-a-ways!

4:47 when are people going to realize there is no better business bureau. They are nothing but a private organizations that businesses pay to be a part of. If a business doesn't belong to them there is nothing they can do. If a business does belong to them all they can do to that business is nothing except take a complaint and lower there made up rating system. It is a scam. Where is the BBB located. Geez, this is not the 70's or 80's. Do a review on travel advisory or yelp or something like that.

I agree with 4:47. Take it to the Better business bureau as well as the town. Sorry for the awful treatment. Try Castle in the Sand too!

11:06 - You should read 10:58's post. The BBB is completely useless.

It always gets me when someone complains and sends it as Anonymous. If they had issues why the hell don't they leave their name? How do we know that it is just someone with an issue as a unhappy employee. I will not leave my name as I did not have the issue.

anonymous 9:59, Look, each and every Letter to the Editor DOES have a name to it.

The ONLY reason I do NOT publish their name is because of a holes like you who will retaliate against them, call them, harass them and attack them.

Don't say that wouldn't happen because that is exactly what mentally challenged people like JT have done in the past.

I protect them by removing their names and only publish the names of those people who insist their name be published.

Now go back to your Blog, slam another box of Ding Dongs and pop some more of those blood thinner pills before you die of a heart attack.

Joe, I am very sorry as I did not know that everyone has a name to it if they want to remain Anonymous. I do note that there are a number of people who want to let it be known that they are the ones to be victimized.

Most of the hotels in OC are scuzzy....especially the non-corporate branded ones. When it's a well known brand, they have specific contractual requirements to keep in the system.

The Fenwick Inn values the needs of every single guest, especially those who are handicapped. As much as we strive to provide the best service and accommodate all of our valued guest's requests, sometimes due to various circumstances, we fall short. In those cases, we always make every attempt to make it right with the guest. When this reservation was made, a request was made for the lowest floor due to handicapped needs. This immediately flagged our staff to preblock a handicapped room for the guest. Unfortunately, the lowest floor we have a handicapped room on, is the third floor and the priority was placed on ensuring a handicapped accessible room was assigned even though it was not on the second floor. Regrettably, on Sunday a bus group checked into the entire second floor, including the 4 king rooms. When one of our staff realized Monday morning that the guest request for the second floor was not possible, she called the guest to inform them that it wasn't available and sadly the guest was very upset and decided not to stay. Simply put, we made a mistake by not giving the priority to the second floor over the handicapped accessability. We have since contacted the guest offering a complimentary stay in the hopes to make things right.
