The bridge's heavy traffic volume at peak times, height and more than four mile span over the Chesapeake Bay, often land it a spot among the World's scariest bridges. But having lived on Kent Island for many years, Ellen Gale was never afraid to cross the bridge, until the morning of April 18, 2011.
"Unfortunately, I remember the day like it was yesterday," Gale said. "It's awful, awful."

Requiring trucks and rv's to travel in the right lane across the bridge will eliminate a lot of the problems.
I drive over the top of the Bay these days. Longer drive, but you avoid the nuts, the congestion, and the bridge.

I guess you have never been on this bridge or you would know that has always been the case.
FYI, it is not the trucks that CAUSE the crashes, it is the autos, as in at least 70% of all truck-auto crashes. ( actually I think the rate is 80% but not sure)
Been on the bridge plenty of times stuck behind an 18 wheeler passing another car in the left lane.
27 million @ 7+ bucks per??? Where does that money go?
