A Viewer Writes: Speed Traps on Rt. 50

Heading into Ocean City, from Salisbury. At least 2 speed traps and a few spare cop cars. Might want to let people know to drive slowly, I assume it's not the only road that's booby trapped this weekend.

Route 50 is not "booby trapped". No one driving the speed limit is getting stopped. Poster says drive slowly; bad idea. You don't get money back for going slow, you just add to what is already a dangerous situation.

JUST DRIVE 55 and dont worry about it

There was a DUI checkpoint last night in Willards on Route 50 Westbound at Woodyard Road.

Good answer 9.33

but its all for your SAFETY. seig...

"Booby Trapped" is definitely a bit too strong of a word BUT there is a HUGE presence of police on Highway 50.

I've never seen TWO full speed traps setup, with additional cars pulling people over.

The first is at Willards and the second after the 90 bypass.

Drive safe, drive the speed limit and buckle up this weekend people

Southbound Rt 113 also at Carey Rd (in between Showell and Berlin.)

The speedtraps were in full force all night last night, from Annapolis to Salisbury, as well. I saw 7 traffic stops between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM on my way home last night, blue lights a flashing and radar running. They will continue throughout the holiday weekend until the troopers generate enough money, or they run out of overtime or sleep.

How about you just dont break the law? I hate seeing posts here and on Facebook announcing this. If you do the crime, pay the fine.

Anonymous said...

Be aware of the new lowered speed limits on Route 113 just before Berlin.

Anonymous said...

It is all about safety, er money. 55 is joke. There is no reason why Rt. 50 should not be 65 other than to collect fines.

Anonymous said...

I personally hope that the LE readers of this blog radio in and move their "Traps." They are only "traps to those who dont care about the LAW or ANYONE ELSE'S SAFETY! SLOW DOWN - THE BEACH WILL STILL BE THERE!

Anonymous said...

@3:25 how about the reason being due to the small towns that RT 50 passes through? How about the reason being that there are actually school busses that have to stop directly on RT 50 to pick up and drop off children? How about you just slow down or pay the fine?

Anonymous said...

They don't pull drivers for doing 65, 3:25. Only people I've ever seen pulled on 50 were doing easily 75+. And I don't give a good damn if the motivation is financial. As long as it gets some of those idiots to slow down a bit.

Anonymous said...

Such whining. If you don't want a ticket, then drive the speed limit. With so much traffic, is there some reason drivers should not be expected to drive safely? Go take your booby trap comments elsewhere. You sound like a boob yourself.

Anonymous said...

State needs the money, and cops needs to slowdown and do the speed limit.

Anonymous said...

Isn't is amazing that traffic flows and no accidents any other day/weekend? Safety my butt. And to the genius above, school buses usually do not run at night. Drive you own vehicle, in the right lane, and let others drive theirs. Bunch of brainwashed wimps.

Without traffic enforcement it would be Indianapolis 500 with attitude.

'Tards like you are usually NOT as good behind the wheel as you think you are. I could care less if you hit a tree - one less mouth-breather. But, unfortunately, you usually have to take innocent people with you. Understand that you don't own the damn road, either.

Anonymous said...

Just go with the flow, and subtract 2 mph, so more are passing you than you are passing. Do that, and you'll probably be around 60-62 and never be bothered. It's the idiots that want 75 they are after.

End game, you will arrive 3 minutes after everyone else you were racing with, and without a ticket delay and fine.

DOH!

Johnny, is that you? I told you no more internet until you finished your homework. You have got to bring those grades up or no summer camp for you. Now get your jammies on and go to bed

That's right. Just keep letting the government tell you what to do, when to do it and how to do it. Keep spying on your neighbor and phoning in tips what everyone around you is doing. That's a good little slave. Your reward will be you will be the last one marched into the chamber. WE'll even let you push some of your friends inside and bolt the door.

How do they trap you, push a button and your car go faster?

No they usually hide, disguise themselves and their vehicles, use farm equipment, work trucks, bucket trucks, semi's, planes, you name it.

If they and some brainwashed wimps are so concerned about people going faster than some sign says so, why do they speed so routinely and faster than others whom they write tickets to?

Because they are the revenue gatherers, not contributors.

Speed cops are hypocritical scum of the earth. Do as I say, but if you do what we do you will get a ticket, beat up, murdered or all of the above. They need to be disarmed and reduced in numbers, like obammy is doing to our military.

If we don't need as many grunts to protect our COUNTRY, we surely don't need as many undereducated grunts defending our towns, cities, states or highways.

I would rather have dangerous freedom than peaceful slavery. The rest of you wool wearing brainwashed twerps may feel differently, as I'm sure you do. Baaaa

12:41 two wrongs don't make a right. Since they speed you feel you should have the right to speed? It's kind of ironic, when drivers see a cop, they slow down and do the speed limit until they get past the officer. So that doesn't deter speeding, but if you don't know where they are you watch your speed because you don't want a ticket or the fine. Most accidents involve speed and distracted driving. Yes police are just as guilty, but the answer isn't to feel justified to speed. Hold them accountable don't add to the ready growing problem.

Anonymous said...

12:51 crime is on the rise, yet we want less cops, not the best answer. Just need to ensure police are held to a certain standard, hold the elected officials, sheriff, mayors, council members responsible.

I would much rather see the radar operations on the back roads. Every other day someone is killed or serious injured on a back road on Delmarva due to speed. I travel daily on some 50mph back roads. I speed.....a little bit...... and no matter how fast I am going someone is tailgating me and/or passing me going well above 10 miles the limit.
If it were in fact all about safety then get off the highway and on the back roads.

Anonymous said...

The cops need to have radar set up to keep the idiots from killing other people. Drive no more than 8mph over the limit and you won't have any problem.

Anonymous said...

For the record most accidents are not repeat not caused by speed. Also for the record all fines written on state summons go to the district court not the police or even the general fund.

No, you have that reversed. If they want people to drive the speed limits, THEY should drive the speed limits. I drive according to the traffic flow and conditions. If people want to go faster than I am driving, I move over and let them. If people want to go slower than I want to, I go around them. I don't block them in, try to force them to go the same speed as I or any other such thing. I try not to be a hinderance or a tailgater. I rarely even look at another driver. Usually I can tell what they are going to do before they do it. There are some of us that can 'read' traffic. And then there are those who think they are the only ones on the highway. I was trained if you change lanes or pull in front of someone and they have to use their brakes, you didn't do it correctly. Just because there is space for you car does not always mean you should enter that space. There are not many that are trained that way any longer. They are trained now if they can go a block without hitting anything or scaring the instructor they get a license. AFTER they pay money of course.

People can defend themselves just fine without any police. They did it for a long time before any cops were ever entrusted with that duty. And now cops do not protect us. They terrorize us, they assault and murder us and our pets. They are corrupt. They are bullies.

There is no oversight or responsible accounting of police FORCES. Any given day someone is assaulted and/or murdered by a cop. You don't have to take my word for it, just read a news story.

And if you don't think cops commit acts of crime you are naive. That also can be found in news stories. Everybody wants to hold on to the belief that cops are our friends and have our best interests at heart. That simply is not the case.

Fines are made PAYABLE to the District Court, and then the monies are sent to the state. I don't know which comic book you have been reading.

So, it's ok to speed.

Most of you have no clue!

I think there maybe a stop sign trap by dunkin donuts in Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

I believe that some are trying to make the point that the cops swarm like bees to catch speeders on holiday or festival weekends. Of course, that's their right and, of course, folks shouldn't speed. However, it is really hard to watch so many cops speeding to get home or get their kid to school, talking on cell phones while driving, etc. I've even seen off duty cops drive drunk more than a few times. I am a firm believer that cops should be examples for civilians and there's no argument that could convince me otherwise. Cops should abide by the laws just as should everyone else.

who cares

Anonymous said...

I'm not saying locals don't speed because they do but the tourists from the city who drive in bumper to bumper traffic everyday get on Rt. 50 and see an open road on which to let loose. They are easy picking for the police as most of the local know where the police set up and slow down in those areas.
