Have You Talked With Your Neighbor Since Last Nights Shooting?
Call your neighbors. Make sure things seem normal. When a suspect is on the loose, you never know if he/she forced their way into some one's home and are held up there. Keep in mind, they could be held up ANYWHERE. Make the call. If you're suspicious please call the Police.

I read this article and immediately afterwards read the article on Georgia's new gun legislation which spurred this comment. Now I don't live in the area of this occurrence but, after the warning given to all the residents in that area I can well imagine everyone's blood pressure went up a few points. Now those of you who are pro gun control will most probably try and shoot holes (pardon the pun) in my comment, while those who are anti gun control will probably agree at least in part to it. When I heard of the warning that was issued I thought to myself how I'd react. Well I'm pro gun control in this respect, gun laws should have some substance, geared towards those that use guns in a crime and to prevent those that have a propensity to crime be refused gun ownership and the list goes on, however that being said I'm a gun owner and believe that anyone who has a desire to lawfully own a firearm should own one, especially for home defense, given the same situation as last night in my neighborhood, for me I'd just used good common sense, lock my doors and windows, illuminate the area around my home, and make sure that the 2 handguns I keep available are prepared for use. If I wished to go out, and as I have a gun permit I would have gone out, armed. My point is really very simple if you want to stay home locked up in your house unarmed while an alleged dangerous criminal is on the loose in your area that's up to you, and if he breaks into your house then what? by the way you don't need a handgun permit for your home! myself I have no desire to shoot anything but deer and targets but as a LAST resort and under certain circumstances I will shoot someone breaking into my home and I'm prepared to do it, I'm retired from Law Enforcement and spent many years as a Firearms Instructor and am very skilled in firearms, BUT I am also very relieved I never had to use those skills to shoot a human being. It is a sad commentary that in todays life with the crime rate the way it is ordinary unarmed citizens are just targets, what good is it going to do you to talk to a 911 operator if someone is climbing through your window or kicking down your door, the only option you have is run out of your own home with your cell phone and answer questions from the 911 operator, for me, no one and I mean no one is going to force me to run out of my home.
Where I'm from this is routine, and the drill is routine. We lock our doors, pull the curtains or blinds and go on about our business.Oh,I almost forgot;we don't answer the door for any reason.I can see why people panic when they aren't used to it.
Good neighbors are the best defense. Large city... large crime. Too many people live isolated lives and don't look out for one another. Be good to each other people.

Another reason we need the 2nd amendment.
We called our neighbors and activated our neighborhood phone tree. Very comforting to have neighbors like we do.
