This problem is further reaching than medical care.
This practice is also used in car buying, car repairs, purchasing airline tickets, the list can go on.
It is always buyer beware.

It's funny how people scream this is why we need universal healthcare (more government control). Try this when you need care tell the hospital/doctor I am paying cash - no insurance. I think you will find out that the bill will be reasonable. Before you blame the evil insurance companies think about all the federal government control occurring to these insurance companies. What you will find is that it is the governments interference into the private market that is destroying it.
