DELMAR POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE 12-10-13

Incident: Introducing of the newest member of our fleet

Location: Delmar, DE/MD

Date: 12/09/13

Subject: The Delmar Police Humvee

The Delmar Police received their Humvee from Ft. Meade, MD, through the Department of Defense, Law Enforcement Support Office; 1033 program. The program’s motto is “from War Fighter to Crime Fighter.” The program enables Law Enforcement to receive military equipment FREE for utilization in its mission to serve to the people of Delmar. The Delmar Police Department’s Humvee made its debut to the public this past Saturday at the Delmar Christmas Parade.

The Delmar Police Humvee was given a complete makeover from its original War Fighter configuration to accommodate its new Crime Fighting and Rescue mission for the Delmar community. The funds for the makeover were obtained through a grant from the USDA Rural Development for Community Service. The remaining matching funds were paid by the Delmar Police Drug Forfeiture Proceeds. The makeover for the Humvee was led by Tom Hopkins of the Hopkins Automotive Group, with two locations to serve you, in Seaford, DE and Salisbury, MD.

The Delmar Police thank the Mayors and council members of both Delaware & Maryland for supporting this project to better serve the citizens of Delmar.

Special thanks to Lester Hobbs of the State of Delaware Emergency Management, LESO, 1033 program coordinator.

"Free" maybe, but we still have to pay for the gas for that 5 mile per gallon beast!

I'm sorry! Using the words "Crime Fighter", and Delmar in the same sentence?
LOL! A Humvee to be used for lunch detail is a bit much. Fuel consumption is what 5 miles to the gallon? What major disasters fall on Delmar that would require use of and Army Vehicle? Now well have to buy them little soldiers Uniforms? Because now their not properly dressed.
"Delmar's Lean Green Fighting Machine".

I remember that presidential candidate Michael Dukakis Photo Opp. Where he sat in a tank with a helmet on his head like he was driving the tank. Didn't do much for his political carrier either.

Is this their 4th unit. They have a few on their lot already. What the heck do they need them for.

Glad to see Delmar is finally going to attack its overwhelming, horrendous crime problem. So tired of hearing about all the murders, robberies, and violent crimes in that metropolis.

Does it have the mounting brackets for a .50 cal? If not, it will soon. And then, they will find a reason to shoot something (or somebody) with it....

Federal militarization of local law enforcement. The crap continues. They're preparing for civil unrest when the economy collapses.

Has there ever been any real reason in the history of Delmar, De/Md that would have needed 4 Humvees?

I didn't think so.

Now, they are just a maintenance cost.

Get another goal, Delmar.

Or, are you doing something that may require these vehicles in the near future?

Will Sheriff Lewis get one. The humvee is big like his ego

And yet if we didnt get this, and there did come a need for this, it would be all their fault too. If they are getting enough drug money off the street to help fund this, then good for them and keep it up.

To think Delmar PD has the audacity to prepare for a disaster, God forbid, is just ridiculous!

I like knowing that Delmar has such a vehicle to help anyone in need if the need arises. It's not like it is an everyday patrol car.
