The only hotel on the grounds of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport will close next month, ending a 30-year lease with the Maryland Aviation Administration.
Four Points by Sheraton BWI Airport was working on a lease extension at the property for more than a year. But the additional five years there would have called for a $2 million renovation to keep it up with the standards of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, which owns the Sheraton brand.
Business has been greatly hurt by sequestration and the renovation would not have been cost effective, General Manager Kevin Carnes said.

Business was hurt by the tons of hotels in the area and MD is not business friendly…Biz travel to Baltimore is down.
Stayed there once a few years back. Filthy room. Way better choices close by with free shuttles and parking.
I call bs on this one. they milked it for everything it was worth. Place is a dump and to fix it up after years of neglect would cost 2mil. It wasn't sequestration, it was poor shortsighted ownership!
Nice try to blame the shutdown on the hotels business being down. I have stayed at the hotel several times. Room rates are too high for the quality, and a lunch bill of $250 for 4 people. The courtyard is right down the street and very nice!
