A Comment Worthy Of A Post 10-27-13

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "WELCOME TO SALISBURY MARYLAND":

Salisbury EMS being dispatched for a stabbing. Patient in a vehicle at South Salisbury Blvd and Milford Street. Fruitland PD on the scene. Paramedic 16 is responding. Assistant Chief 1 is responding. Engine 16-1 is responding with 21D and 5(Six paid Firemen). Fruitland PD holding pressure on the stabbing to the chest. Assistant Chief 1 on the scene 20D has command(20D is a lieutenant so how is he commanding an assistant chief position). So that is at least 9 fire department staffing for on simple stab wound to the chest? Am I missing something here. At least 9 paid firemen and at least one Fruitland police officer providing emergency care. Ten paid people on a simple stabbing that 2 qualified paramedics on one ambulance could have handled easily. Six paid firemen on one fire truck and I am sure they all stood around watching because 9 paid firemen can't fit in that car or the back of he ambulance. WOW! Thanks Jim Ireton for raping the tax payers again and this sounds like it might have been Fruitland's problem and not Salisbury's

It is Standard Operating Procedure in Wicomico County to dispatch an Engine along with an EMS unit on ALL reported stabbings, shootings and violent assaults. It has been procedure for a number of years. The Engine crew does several things. A) protect the EMS crew from harm, B) assist the paramedic crew with patient care. It sounds like you aren't familiar with chest injuries. There is NO SUCH THING AS A SIMPLE STAB WOUND TO THE CHEST. Since you were obviously listening to your scanner, you said the Fruitland officer was "Holding Pressure" on the wound. That tells me an artery may have been knocked. Oh yeah almost forgot, I am qualified to answer this question because I am a former EMS provider with 20 years on the job.

why would it have been fruuitlands problem when they are in salisbury?

ok, I get the point, but no offense " A simple stab wound to the chest? I'm not religious, but I hope they send the Pope, his bishops and any other followers that may be available.

And there you have it folks, another scanner fire chief that knows nothing about the fire service!

The assistant chief last night was a paramedic. The "paid" firemen on the engine were paramedics and emts. That many personnel on scene is not always for the Pt. sometimes it is to back up those takening care of the Pt. that is what we do, we take care of our own.

Understand SFD fireboat, HMS HOPPES, is enroute with a crew of 8. Delayed response due to Rt. 50 bridge opening in OC. Believe they were doing public service event at Seacrets Halloween party.

"simple stabbing" LOL no such thing. Man you are clueless.

I doubt they are paid by the job, so if they are all salary employees then send as many that can go, no limit on how many staff to save a life. I'm sure Fruitland would send for us if needed

Perhaps if your were the victim, your tone would be different.

Firefighters are getting paid to sit at the station doing nothing or running calls. So why not run calls and attempt to help people. I still don't see why that makes them bad being available 24/7 to help total strangers at a drop of a hat.

This was not "Fruitland's problem", but it was nice of Fruitland to respond to Salisbury to help with their problems.

The ignorant statements abound each and ever day. Clearly a person with no formal experience in Emergency Medicine. The introduction of sharp object into a humans chest cavity creates an endless list of fatal scenarios. Violent incidents require much more than a Basic Life Support response. From my experience Salisbury's response was spot on.

Here are all the heros again. Nobody knows anything except them. They have the power of life or death. They are GODS.

Thanks for what you do but PLEASE, stop blowing your own horns. It's annoying and unattractive. You will not win any friends with your conceit and self righteousness. Do your job, go home and let others sing your praises, if there are any to be sung.

When you do it yourselves, it is way off key and gives others headaches.

Just because it's SOP doesn't make it right. How can you protect the paramedic as a farmin? I'm sure the paramedic would prefer a police officer for protection. And what kind of assistance can you provide other than NONE! You obviously didn't learn anything. If it is a serious wound the patient needs a trauma surgeon and not ten farmin standing around. Twenty years experience as an EMS provider and I bet you can show me anywhere in any medical book or periodical anything about an "an artery may have been knocked." You are a typical wannabe farmin who may have sat through and EMT class that knows just enough to make you look stupid and cause harm.
