Last months - June 2013 - jobs numbers were slightly revised upward showing 47 more jobs than was originally reported, however, this did not make a significant dent into our Country's former employment stature. Wicomico's economy has not only been plagued with a reduced area workforce, but also with high housing foreclosures.

So thats why there is more people lined up in front of the Lower Shore Clinic.
How's that economic recovery working for ya!
What you are witnessing is what is referred to in the Bible as the rapture.
What is being raptured is the shear number of taxpayers who formerly supported your governmental infrastructure - and are now gone.
Woe! This is not good. I had a feeling that people were just giving up, you can see it all around you.
We keep loosing jobs, and yet they want to keep raising our taxes and fees!!!!
The Governor, his cabinet, and many members of the Maryland General Assembly need to be recalled. Many of them have tried to mask Maryland's true economy and they ought to be prosecuted.
The feds just keep issuing more and more bonds and I'm sure that if one were to review the figures of the feds purchase of bonds this year verses pre-recession then one could easily conclude that this economy does not have legs. It is a Ponzi scheme of mammoth proportions.
And Ricky keeps giving speeches that we are in recovery. Right!!!!! No way, Ricky you need to work harder for the people of Wicomico. Oh I forgot, you don't really have the experience to help with recovery. Let's hope the new man you hired does.
What are all of these people now doing? The number of workers in our county keep diminishing and yet our population is increasing. Sooner or latter something has to give.
I noticed that one of Obama's chief economist just announced his resignation. I did not catch the name, but I'm sure if you Google it, you could find out more.
I believe everyone has noticed the large number of abandoned houses around Wicomico. They are everywhere. Also, I recently noticed that many are currently being restored, but many have sat vacant for 3 or 4 years now.
12:52....ur right! Ricky's man that he has running the landfill is sooo under qualified that it simply stinks! The county need's to hire ppl that know how to make money...not to just throw it away. Supposedly they hired a man that's goin to get them on the right track. Lol...will believe it when I see it!
Wicomico Cty and City of Salisbury We have one of the highest crime rates in the US. And we are known for "Business Unfriendly". That is why the job market is low. City wants to charge Business to much in taxes. You figure out who is at fault.
And our Bozo mayor of Salisbury put the citizens up for O'Malley's rain tax, when people aren't working things don't get paid unless you resort to thieving. The last thing we need here is a rain tax, sometimes the rain causes people to be unable to work due to the weather. The weather this summer has cost me hours!
And Quizno's north out of business on Aug. 30th... More jobs gone.
I would like to know who SBYnews is composed of. Your style of reporting has only been witnessed with very large networks like FOX or EIB. Your organization seems poised to include substantive facts that reveal the truth. Most other local medias seem tolean toward the left and thus are biased.
GREAT JOB, and keep up the good work.
Yours truly,
Taxpayer
E.S of Va. new Biz coming. DE. Perdue expanding with DuPont in a Seed Biz. Maryland losing jobs in a dramatic way. Wicomico County in the pits. Has anyone figured this out yet.
taxes and regs won't bring in new biz and keep the ones we have left. duh. Wicomico County - Please wake up.
To 6:35 - I noticed it to. The reporting staff seems to be a notch above the other MSMs. Much better caliber of reporting verses WBOC, WMDT, DT. Not knocking any of the others - but it is what it is.
Don't forget that Pollitt backed Obama and Omalley.
Can the voters who put the liberal democrat establishment in charge honestly think they are doing a good job when it comes to a jobs program, affordable health care, lowering taxes on the poor working people?

I agree. Salisbury News is clearly the dominant leader in broadcasting the real news verses a distorted view. As a life long residence of Wicomico county I do not know how our citizens have survived all of these years under so many false-hoods. It is really refreshing to finally see things for what they really are.
Thanks!
Beezer, you have a cumulative number at the bottom, but the data isn't cumulative. There haven't been 7,684 jobs lost. There are 1,196 fewer employed people now than two years ago.
It's important to not be misleading...
I'm not sure that's Beezer's number, 940. It looks like it was cut and pasted with the chart. I'm wondering if that's a 5 or 10 year number. You are correct, though, that it's not backrd up with the previous numbers shown.
Reference 9:40 - You have to compare the month to month totals - (i.e. July 2013 - workforce was 52950 minus July 2012 was 54801 = 1851 less workers) If you do this each month you will get the same totals = 7684
Hope this helps you to understand what is going on locally and nationally.
There simply are not enough jobs around here to support our people. It just is not happening. Government growth is growing but our economy is sinking. This is unsustainable.
I think 9:14 has been drinking to much of the O'Malley kool aid.
WAKE UP POLITT AND COUNCIL STOP RAISING OUR TAXES. WHY DON'T YOU TAKE A PAY CUT IF YOU L-O-V-E-THIS CITY SO MUCH AS YOU CLAIM?????
ALL OF YOU ARE IN IT FOR THE PERKS AND THE MONEY AND NOTHING ELSE!
Joe - this is excellent information. A 5th grader could understand what is transpiring in Wicomico after looking at the employment data.
I only wish that you would cover Worcester Cos. employment data as that is where I live. Our unemployment is always astronomical - way above Wicomico and it would be nice to really see what is happening.
Great coverage. I am very glad to see that we finally have a media that reports the news instead of fabricating the news.
Thanks for dissemanating the local employment info.
I graduated from SU just a few months ago and have been constantly looking for a job. Finally, I decided to cut grass for the remainder of the summer as I quickly noticed that the pay differential in working for myself is a little better when compared to what the local area employers offered. I got just (2) responses out of 48 applications so far. Neither one of the offers was acceptable because both of them required me to work weekends and night time. If things do not improve by fall - I'm going to expand my search across the bay. There is just not much opportunity around here for college grads - unless you are considering the teaching profession.
What is alarming is that most of our crime, drug trafficking, and prostitution are directly attributed to the state of our local ecomomy. If there are not sufficient jobs, then, there is not much alternative.
Politically speaking, Wicomico has few alternatives as Annapolis has hamstung our ability to complete. Currently, there are so many regulatory land use obstructions and regulatory industry barriers, it is no wonder that our employment numbers are pathedic. I have seen this coming for well over a decade. And what do our elected officials do - kill the goose to lay the golden egg - construction. Construction Inpact fees have wiped out the only viable industry that could help lead our county out of the doldrums. Inpact fees were a recipe for disaster right from the beginning.
Your elected officials helped to make the current bed - now the residents have to lay in them. Wicomico countians should have seen this freight train coming.
GREAT REPORTING!
To 8:10 p.m. posting - I think SBYnews maybe a national syndicate to FOX news. I also like their style of reporting.
There are homeless people everywhere. I have lived here all of my life and never witnessed so many homeless people.
Just tonight - while going to McDonalds on Tilghman Road, there was an entire family of Indians. The wife, 3 kids, and the husband held up a sign at the corner of the Entrance on Tilghman Road. The sign read, Lost my job and have 3 kids and a wife to support.
Then I went to Home Depot - and there stood another at the Rt. 50 entrance. Going toward the Centre of Salisbury Mall - there were three more. There are panhandlers everywhere around Wicomico.
To Posting 7:44 pm - I agree. My wife and I were observing all of the homeless as we mading our way on RT 13 north. There are homeless people meandering all around Salisbury and Wicomico.
This is a clear indicator that something is wrong with our economy.
The reduction in workforce numbers has to do with ObamaCare and governmental regulations that are making it prohibitive for employers to hire.
But most of all - the taxing structure created by our government is what has severely handcuffed employers to not hire. Obama is not a president that can recognize any of these symptoms.
