Station 1 volunteers just dispatched for a Hazmat call at the airport. Got out in no time and responding. Great Job Station 1.
9:33 it all depends if its your money they're pissing away. If its your money and you don't care fine. But if you think your taxes are too high well this is why.
The most hated volunteer in OC / paid fire captain in Salisbury is self dispatching on an ambulance call at Pine Bluff Village. More ambulance chasing calls with the fire engine. When will it stop.

Instead of complaining about the paid firefighters why don’t you volunteer at your local Fire Department? This is what you need to get started.
IS-00100 – 3 hours
IS-00200 – 16 hours
IS-00700 – 3 hours
IS-00800 – 3 hours
CPR – 3 hours
Blood borne Pathogens – 3 hours
Infection Control – 3 hours
EMT – 165 hours
Fire Fighter 1 – 108 hours
Fire Fighter 2 – 60 hours
Emergency Vehicle Operator Class – 39 hours
Pumps – 30 hours
Haz-Mat Operations – 24 hours
That is 460 hours of training, you will need additional training to become an Officer.
The average Volunteer lasts 5 years, so if you want to support your community and learn what Fire Fighters and EMTs do now is the time

Who says the average volunteer lasts 5 years? Where did you get your stats Mr. Paid Farmin?
Salisbury and Ocean City has numerous volunteers that have lasted 30 to 40 years. Please give us some facts instead of trying to run the volunteer service down.

So what is your point? Those 200+ "Fire Calls" are not actual fire calls. They are fire engines chasing ambulance calls in order to run up their call volume and charge more on the ambulance bill for an extra helper on staffing.
I wouldn't doubt that they only last 5 years. Some of the people in charge of these fire departments think they can walk on water. I have seen it at several departments and the paid staff is the worse. Most paid/volunteer think you owe them something. They put their buddies in charge instead of those more qualified even though they don't deserve it because they will cause less problems and won't questions their poor choices. Don't think because someone carries a title in the FD that they know something. It many cases it only means they are a butt kisser. It's no wonder they can't keep volunteers.

My son quit volunteer training 15 miles away because his "trainer" did something dishonest. He wanted to continue for the cause, but made a moral decision to disassociate himself with a dishonest person.
I am very proud of my son for that.
Salisbury experienced a very heavy call volume of nearly 50 calls before midnight and you cant find anything good to say about that ? You would rather debate whether the crews were volunteer or paid or how much it cost. The calls were handled by members both career and volunteer from all three stations. That's all you need to know.

That's all we need to know? Joe I think this is a comment worthy of a post to show what kind of people work at the Salisbury Fire Department. That is the mentality of Hoppes and the paid firemen saying "That is all you need to know" to the tax payers that pay their salaries.

29 EMS calls doesn't quite cut the "nearly 50 calls before midnight" Mr. Paid Fireman. Before midnight means before your bedtime doesn't it. If the paramedics ran that many calls in a 24 hour shift then they are the busiest medic units on the Eastern Shore and proves they are definitely underpaid. They didn't get any rest all day while the paid firemen got to eat their breakfast, lunch and dinners uninterrupted and had an uninterrupted night of sleep. They got their cars and trucks watched and got in a couple of hours of playing on xbox. Must be a gravy job being a paid fireman.
