Resume:
Wilmington- Troopers have arrested a 22 year old Virginia man after stealing a motorcycle in Philadelphia, PA and then crashing on I95 in Wilmington.
Preliminary investigation has determined that the incident began on Saturday, morning at an automobile business in Philadelphia, PA, as Tony Harris-22 of Norfolk, VA had made arrangements to test ride a Suzuki motorcycle. The business arranged for another individual to go along with Harris on another motorcycle and escort him on the test ride. At some point during the test ride both Harris and the other individual stopped for fuel, at which point the individual felt uncomfortable about the test ride continuing and requested the keys from the motorcycle. Harris allegedly pointed a handgun at the individual and fled on the motorcycle onto I95 at a high rate of speed with the other individual following.
Harris traveled I95 southbound at a high rate of speed and attempted to exit onto the Delaware Avenue off ramp, losing control of the motorcycle and struck the guardrail, and was ejected. He then fled on foot, and was observed by the individual following him, tossing the gun into brush alongside of the roadway.
Harris was located and taken into custody without incident in the area of 11th and Adams Street, Wilmington, by the Wilmington Police Department. A semiautomatic handgun and two loaded 16 round ammunition clips were located in the brush where Harris was seen throwing it.
Harris was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Trauma Hospital Center where he was admitted with non-life threatening injuries. He was arraigned and committed on $10,000 Secured Bond and placed into the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Philadelphia Police Department continues their investigation into the initial incident that occurred in Philadelphia, pending charges.
