The structure fire wasn't even a structure fire and it was Parsonsburg's call. The dispatchers do overkill with all of their calls these days and dispatched Parsonsburg, Salisbury Station 2 and Delmar. There wasn't even fire showing and the 911 dispatchers alerted a full response.

The volunteers at Station 2 did a great job getting out and handling the call.

Joe you have proven over and over again that the City of Salisbury doesn't need a paid fire crew.

This obviously proves that the City needs and EMS department more than it needs the fire department. Redirect the resources to an EMS Department and hire and EMS chief that can run the department.

Then cut out all the ambulance chasing calls and let the volunteers handle the fire calls. Mission accomplished.

I never see the pizza run, sub run, or Chinese food run.

Just to educate you. The Wicomico County Fire Chief's Association along with the Radio Committee and the administration of the Wicomico County Department of Emergency Services make up the standard operating procedures and guidelines for the dispatchers to follow. It just so happens that when someone reports a building fire, 3 departments are dispatched automatically. The same group of people also want fire engines to go with ambulances on accidents, shootings, stabbings, assaults and a few types of medical calls that meet Delta or Echo criteria.

Why doesn't the city separate the fire department into 2 divisions of Fire and EMS like they did with BHZ. There is now a BPI and an NSCC and that works out perfectly.

And those same group of people should be eliminated from making any decisions.

The decisions from these people are just to increase the call volume. The Salisbury fire department wants it done for job security.

The small fire companies want it done because they are bored and want to respond on more calls. They like telling someone they are in charge and stand out in the yard thumping their chest. Look at me, look at me!

What does the committee say about Salisbury self dispatching themselves on EMS calls or other departments calls? What do they say about the chiefs cars responding to Fruitland, Hebron, Delmar or Parsonsburg or anywhere out of the Salisbury fire district?

You my friend sound like a disgruntled (former) member of the fire service. Or someone who has been promoted over. If that's the case then you are a CANCER to the fire service.

Some of what you say couldn't be further from the truth. Everyone operates/ run calls in Wicmico County from the same set of Standard Operating Procedures. No one that dials 911 is denied a fire engine or ambulance upon request.

There is a severe shortage of volunteers nationwide for a variety of reasons. Amongst the reasons is the stringent requirements on training and certifications placed upon the fire service. Most individuals do not have nor want to bother with all the required training.

Since coming into the fire service in 1979 I have seen many changes starting with the fact that back then each fire chief told Central how they wanted to be dispatched on fire calls and it was then left up to the dispatchers to try and remember what each fire chief wanted done for what call. It changed from fire chief to fire chief each and every year. 1985 saw the Wicomico County Fire Service come together to create a set of Standard Operating Procedures that each fire chief signed off on and now theses procedures can't be changed on a wild hair from a firechief. At one time structure fire responses were handled by dispatching 2 stations and now it is 3. Partly because of manpower shortages. The governing bodies of the fire service, (National Volunteer Fire Council, National Fire Protection Agency) emphasize SAFETY and SAFETYon numbers today. As far as why AC1 responding into the county fire department first due area's is something that you need to contact the chief's office tomorrow morning at 41-548-3120 to inquire.

Wow, we have a serious cost problem here. Thank you 322 and previous commenters for the insight! It's a bad economy to waste money in.

I don't know why an engine or truck company responds on medicals in Wicomico Co. but in busy areas they are sent as 1st responders because the engine/truck company is closer than the available ems unit. This prevents a delay in ems care since all the fire fighters are also EMTs, also runs that meet predetermined criteria also get an engine response to provide the ems unit additional help. I find it funny that in every city everyone that bitches about the firefighters being paid to sit around are also the 1st ones to ask "what took you so long" when they call 911

You can rest assured I am not a member of the fire service current or former. I am an educated tax payer who knows what is going on and I have been following this blog for quite some time. You my friend need to wake up and pay attention. I don't believe you have your facts straight even though you say you have been in the fire service since 1979? Have you even fought a fire? I doubt it.

I think 4:22 PM is nothing but a dispatcher with no experience.
