HIGH SCHOOL VALEDICTORIAN STUNS AUDIENCE AFTER HE RIPS UP SPEECH AND DELIVERS THE LORD’S PRAYER INSTEAD — WILD APPLAUSE FOLLOWS

Roy Costner IV, a former public school student from South Carolina, stunned the audience at his high school graduation last weekend when he ripped up his previously-approved valedictorian speech, going on, instead, to speak about God — and then deliver the Lord’s prayer.

The act, which drew loud applause, was taken in opposition to the School District of Pickens County’s decision to axe prayers from graduation events, Christian News reports. Officials said that they had recently received complaints from atheist activists and church-state separatists, leading to the removal of invocations from all school events.

But that didn’t stop Costner.

Good for him! Finally somebody with some sense. SO WHAT if someone is offended by prayers invoked in these events. So stay home.

I'm an atheist, but I applaud the young man. After all, this is still America, right? Prayers don't offend me at all, to each his own.

If only we all could be as reasonable as each of these posters. Tolerance, decency and respect. That's all the world needs.

This student has more ba$$s than our entire congress. I'm sure he will have a great life.

That 15 minutes just may extend into a successful life.

I totally support what this young man did. My question is would you all still think it was so wonderful if the prayer were not a Christian one? I doubt it.

9:58. Such a cynic. If he were yelling Allah Akbar then people would be running, not clapping for that is what muslims say right before they wreak havoc on Christians and Jews.

In my mind there is no such thing as a non Christian prayer.Everything else falls short and should be considered mindless babble. There is no known record of the word "prayer" prior to the writing of the Bible.

11:14, nobody said anything about yelling, only praying. Talk about a cynic! How about a Hindu prayer, or a prayer to Mother Earth? Why assume any alternate prayer is Muslim?

GOD was gloried through this young man and the public applauded.

You miss the point, 12:35. Christians are treated as second-class citizens by our govt and the media. (Note that I am NOT a practicing Christian.) Muslims, especially, are granted protections that other religions are not. It would not have been as meaningful for this kid to break into a non-Christian prayer. Every bureaucrat right up to Obama would have leapt to his defense. What he did took guts and character.

11:14 right. If he was yelling Allah Akbar I would be running as well. Right at him with a chair, broom stick, candle holder, or anything else I could get my hands on.

You're right 9:58. Christianity rules!
