Edward Snowden: The Whistleblower Behind The NSA Surveillance Revelations

The 29-year-old source behind the biggest intelligence leak in the NSA's history explains his motives, his uncertain future and why he never intended on hiding in the shadows

The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.

The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. "I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong," he said.

Snowden will go down in history as one of America's most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world's most secretive organisations – the NSA.

How long before this kid "disappears" under mysterious circumstances?

True.He did a great job and the right thing. However,is this really a revelation to us? Did'nt at least 90% of us already suspect that such a thing was going on?I did.

Treason. Pure and simple.

If this guy is all about privacy, then why did he flee to The People's Republic of CHINA? I have a feeling he sold our secrets to China, and China in turn made him come out to the public so he looks like a lone wolf. He also talks about the US demonizing him, I bet we find out his computers are loaded with child porn and the Chinese used that to frame him.

I guess we know who you voted for 8:44. Nothing you say makes any sense to anyone with 1/2 a brain.

it's a shame he didn't go to other whistleblowers to get his story out in the right venue.
I have no doubt he saw enough behind the scenes he felt he had to do something soon, but it is my understanding he may be a disgruntled employee (according to his work history).
at the same time i'm glad he came out with all this. our government has defied the constitution to the point of treason and they know it. if our leaders continue on this path we're toast. we may already be toast but I think if we push back and not fall for their "line" regarding giving up our freedoms for security, we will have a chance for us and our children.
I can't remember which founding father said we don't deserve to be a free people if we are willing to give up our freedoms for security.

In response to 7:56 It won't be mysterious circumstances-it will be "natural causes".

90% of us may have suspected it but 89% of the 90% doensn't care to pull their heads out of the sand and speak up

Like a bullet to the back of the head 9:49? Does Vince Foster sound familiar to anyone?

Anonymous said...

Don't forget 8:51, Vince Foster SHOT HIMSELF in the back of the head and drug his body into the bushes at Fort Marcy Park.

8:18, Treason is a relevant term these days. Would a Nazi in the Hitler regime snitching that Adolph was planning to murder million of Jews and other people be treason? Well, technically yes. Sometimes "treason" is justified. Especially if the government is Uber-Corrupt.

American hero.

That's what the British Empire called our founding fathers also. Turns out they were the opposite. It all depends on which team you're playing on.

One person's freedom fighters are another person's terrorists.

The work was already done for us. We are allowing those patriots' deaths be in vain.

This country is no longer number one. Except maybe in locking up its' citizens.

We are climbing the ladder on repressing freedoms as well.

Some are more concerned that this guy told on the government rather than be concerned with what the government was doing in the first place.

The emperor has no clothes.

That's right 9:02. I forgot about that part. Silly me.
