No, if you apply today it will be at least the middle of August before your background check is complete. I speak from personal experience.
Also, Maryland state law, COMAR 29.03.01.10, states that if they do not complete the background check within seven days you may take possession of your firearm. The State Police are skirting this law by not applying for the NICS Transaction Number (NTN) until AFTER they have completed their background check The NTN normally takes less than one minute to obtain.
I believe the NRA, through their Washington law firm, recently filed suit against the State of Maryland and also the Maryland State Police regarding this procedure.

This is such a bunch of crap. It is the Maryland State Police under the direction of O'Malley who is stalling their completion of the background. I believe it is a way for this state to keep responsible, law abiding, tax paying people from buying guns legally. Meanwhile our money is tied up until they finish. Every dealer I know requires at least a deposit and some even want full payment up front. How many people would make a deposit on a new car and wait 64 days plus to get it from the dealer. I bet if you could buy a handgun with an ebt card, you could get it within the 7 days the Md. code states. Oh wait, those people just go get cash off the card and buy from the street dealer.
Imagine how frustrating it must be for criminals! I mean, they conjure up a bad deed, go to a LGS, and have to wait until July-August to carry out their crime! Travesty!
Is there a way to file for the NTN immediately? That would prevent them from using the loophole!
I purchased a handgun on Feb 27 and am still waiting. I have no criminal or psychologic issues and have been told it could be a couple more weeks. ..

Luckily I saw this coming over a year ago when my wife felt she needed protection at home while I was away, as my guns are heavy for her to use. We also stocked up on ammo at that time. That ammo is now 3 times more expensive if you can even find it.
Well, I heard thieves just stole 53 guns from a Delaware gun shop... could probably pick up one of those overnight with no backgroung check at all. See how it works, MSP?
Go on down to Church St. and buy yourself a nice piece for $50.00 and no paperwork or background check. Very simple and quick.
There is no way for the FFL (dealer) to file immediately for the NTN on a regulated firearm (handgun). On a long gun or shotgun the dealer contacts NICS sand gets the NTN within 60 seconds. Maryland, and a handful of other states, have agreed to have a state agency, in our case the MSP, act as Point Of Contact) with ATF and NICS. The FFL dealers are prohibited from contacting NICS directly on the purchase of a handgun and MUST go through the POC (MSP). We are screwed, MSP knows it, and could not care less.
BTW, the reason I know all about the NTN, NICS, POC and the other stuff....I filed a lawsuit against Maryland State Police in District Court in Somerset County. They bumped me to the head of the line and I had my handgun within 10 days. You can look it up if you want. I strongly suggest everyone else do the same. There are certain procedures you have to follow so you might want to consult a lawyer first.
Just buy the Church skreet stuff. It may not be your dream gun, but it will get the job done...before September.
How about this? To all the folks out there who own unregistered guns, the value of those guns just tripled. Stolen guns and the business of stealing guns will skyrocket. Thefts will be everywhere,
Why? because the GOVERNMENT is infringing on our rights to purchase guns and ammo as we speak. Then, they will use the theft and unregistered issues to further restrict our rights to firearms! Ammo is already triple price and no longer available in bulk. Glad I armed up early, but now it's coming to however, whenever.
6:00 I keep hearing this, yet haven't slowed down one bit acquiring ammo. .22lr still $.04 per round, under $.20 for 9mm and .45. I guess if you're buying local, maybe? I know the a-holes in delmar are jacking their prices, but it's out there, and cheap!

What a bad frickin joke this state is. Before you actually can legally obtain your gun the government will probably have already declared Marshall law. The Boston incident was training for the coming big event. And there is no doubt there will be THE BIG EVENT, the existing government will make sure of that.
