Savannah Nash, 16, Dies During Her First Solo Drive; Believed To Be Texting

Like most 16-year-old girls, Savannah Nash couldn't wait to get behind the wheel once she got her driver's license.

Her first solo drive turned out to be her last.

Nash, who turned 16 last week, got permission Thursday afternoon to drive to the grocery store in Harrisonville, Mo., to pick up items for the family dinner.

Her vehicle slammed into a tractor-trailer on the way, and she died at the scene, according to WAFB-TV.

It is real simple to stop these senseless deaths, the technology is available NOW. All the states have to do is pass a law requiring the cell carriers to use the technology.
Here is how it works, the phone travels through different cells to communicate with each tower in that cell region, since the phone is moving, the cell towers are constantly tracking the location of the phone, now the good part, since the tower knows that that phone is moving, all it has to do is disable the Text messaging part of the phone! End of problem. No one gets killed because they have to pull over and stop to text. It is that simple! I work in cell phones, so I know they can do this.

While it sounds good how about the people riding in the car? Can a passenger not use the text feature while they are riding? I can't imagine teenagers riding in the back seat of mom and dads car and not being able to text. Oh boy that would start a huge fight lol

1:38 is correct - don't punish the innocent.

Just like the gun control laws - the phone didn't kill the driver - her inattention to the primary task at hand most likely did...she made a choice to multitask - it cost her life.

Harsh is this might sound - the stupid gene isn't going to be passed on.

Darwin's laws of evolution are on the mark.

While "you are moving, you can't text" sounds good... Passengers? In a plane? train? back seat?

This is the same issue as Drinking and Driving. People know what not to do... and do it anyways.

It won't be resolved until cars drive themselves and stupid humans simply can't make the wrong decision - which can't happen soon enough.

Evolution works it mysterious ways.

DUH...I am Demoncrat said...

Why are we driving cars anyway? They contribute to Global warming in the Summer + Global cooling in the Winter + spring showers in the spring + trees loosing their leaves in the fall.

based on dumpocrats thinking, the phone killed her. Let's ban all phones!

I had a comment lined up, but I won't. I am with the commenter that this stupid gene will now not be passed on. Harsh, but true. She had just walked out of class teaching this very lesson, obviously, she needed proof.

How exactly did this become a Republican vs. Democrat issue?

They should teach texting while driving in drivers school so young people can get supervised experience. My grandson is outstanding at it

dummies like you can pass all the laws you care to, and just like any gun law, people have to OBEY the law for it to work.

when will you people learn!
