A group of U.S. House members has offered a bill that would prohibit the term “Redskins” from being trademarked, as the debate over the NFL team’s name expands from the legal system and the court of public opinion to Capitol Hill.
Del. Eni Faleomavaega (D-American Samoa) has authored the Non-Disparagement of American Indians in Trademark Registrations Act of 2013, which would cancel all existing federal trademarks using “Redskins” to refer to Native Americans and prohibit future trademarks as well. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) — a critic of the team’s name — is an original co-sponsor, along with Reps. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and Karen Bass (D-Calif.).

These folks really need to learn to get over themselves.
How stinking ridiculous can things get! Next thing you know the Cowboy's will have to change their name so as not to offend real cowboys who are grown men. A change to let's say the cow herders maybe?
I totally agree with 12:13AM and 12:59AM. People need to learn to chill! Before you know it people will be trying to ban certain colors; they will need to remove the colors from crayons, fabric for clothing, paint, and on and on and on.
SOME, or a lot of people can be soooo dumb!!
This just shows that stupidity has overtaken common sense in our society.
And unfortunately, we will only see more and more of it every day.
We do keep reelecting them!
thank you 8:29.
We took this country from them a long time ago , now live with it.
I don't particularly care, and would rather politicians not waste their time on this crap, but it's hard to deny that "Redskins" is an offensive term. Would it be OK for teams to be called the Baltimore Darkies or the San Francisco Queers?
If you know any American Indians, feel free to go up to one of them, call him a "Redskin," and report back.
No, we won't have to change "Cowboys" because they're considered --white--. We only have to change things that can be related to 'persons of color', be that black, red, yellow, or whatever. This will continue as long as the 'silent majority' sits back and allows it. If we allow it long enough, we will truly become a melting pot nation. But my concern at that point....what will these people find to whine & cry about then.....hmmmm???????
Ok, just how long has this team been the redskins? Why have they waited this long to come up with this? If it is SO offensive they should have had it changed long ago.I say it much ado about nothing...
As if there weren't more pressing issues to deal with in Washington...
I say eliminate any and all references to native Americans.I was once proud of being 1/16 Seneca. Now I'm ashamed to be associated with them.Using Native American terms was initially considered an honor by those implied. Now for some reason they are offended.Do as they say and turn them loose.

I don't know about, but that's what I call Baltimore!
That few select group is just trying to make money from this. I call them opportunists. The name is in fact an honor to the American Indian. Look at the logo and notice that it appears to be that of a fierce warrior. If anyone should be upset it should be the descendants of those killed by indians.
This country is going to S/IT. next thing you know we ALL will be speaking Muslim.
"Muslim" isn't a language 12:45, thanks for showing your ignorance.
1:58 you're an idiot. Get off the couch in your parents basement and get a job. Loser.
Wow! Talk about discrimination. No more honoring native americans?
And I thought libbies likes them?
Tell you what...fix the deficit, fix the homeless problem, the employment problem, the welfare problem, the eduction problem, and then and only then can people in congress and the senate start worrying about this and all the other frivolous things they worry about.
Amen 4:08, well said.
