Free College For Every Student
That's the plan proposed by one gubernatorial candidate in Arkansas. Former Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter is running as a democratic candidate in that state, and he believes that every student should have the right to a high-quality college education. According to his new plan, which he calls the Arkansas Promise, students who maintain a 2.5 GPA, and plan to attend a public university in Arkansas, would be eligible to attend college tuition-free. In his proposal, he wrote, “If you wouldn't hire a football coach who doesn't aspire to winning the national championship and have a plan to do so, then why would you hire a Chief Executive Officer of the state who doesn't aspire to make Arkansas the best state in America and have a plan to make it happen.” Mr. Halter recognizes that educating our future leaders is one of the best investments we can make as a nation. Hopefully, the voters of Arkansas also recognize the value in his plan, and that elected leaders in every state take a cue from Bill Halter.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. If everyone has a college degree then what's going to separate one person from another. If someone really wants a degree they will find a way to pay for and earn one. As it should be.
yes 106, all of us non-trustfund babies should wait until that Mickey D's paycheck ads up to 4 years of tuition. Until we'll just scrimp by, likely in need of some gov. assistance in the form of healthcare and food stamps, at which time you'll label us as freeloaders.
80% of New York graduates from free high schools can't read, write, or do arithmetic at a level that qualifies them to get into colleges. Now, we will make the colleges free and babysit these morons that we produced 4 more years, at which point they will not be able to read, write, or do arithmetic at a level that would qualify them to get a career job.

More important how does he propose to pay for it? TAXES!!!!!!

7:17-The problem with you people is that you want things you clearly cannot afford and children fall into that catagory. Saving money for a child should be something that is done before the child is even conceived.
7:17am, saturation of the applicant pool with college degrees is not the answer. That's why we have the low wage problem we now have. Some people just won't have degrees unless they find a way to get one. Like earn it. If mickey d's is the only thing you can think of then you are pretty narrow minded.
If I'm hiring someone I would obviously want someone who is qualified but also someone who earned their degree not just in terms of GPA but actually earned it. I don't think "free cheese" degrees will bring creativity to the table.
Nothing is ever free, someone has to pay the bill. Just another entitlement and burden on the taxpayer. As with the immigration debate, this is to get more of our youth into the states progressive schools.
Since when does paying for tuition equate to a "free cheese" degree. Last I checked, you still have to EARN THE DEGREE. You still have to prove yourself and gain experience by gaining work experiences and networking. And even with free tuition, you still have to eat. Which means you're still working to earn a wage.
1:45 , you can't win this one. The whole concept of free college for everyone is absurd. If everybody were equal we couldn't have class separation. Without that things wouldn't run so smoothly. Can you imagine let's say one of the armed forces being comprised of all generals? Sounds silly doesn't it? To keep things running smoothly one needs to find another way to get an education rather than relying on the government i.e the taxpayer. No "free cheese" degrees!
