A Registration Fair to enroll students in kindergarten and prekindergarten for the 2013-14 school year will take place April 8-12 in the Flanders Rooms and lobby of the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.
The Registration Fair is for families of children who will start prekindergarten or kindergarten next school year. It is also for children not in public kindergarten now who will be enrolling in the first grade for the 2013-2014 school year. (Students currently enrolled in prekindergarten-3, prekindergarten-4, or kindergarten in Wicomico County Public Schools do not need to register.)
Forms will be available online starting March 22 for families to download, fill out and bring with them to the Registration Fair, along with the required paperwork (detailed below under “What to Bring”). Please visit www.wcboe.org and click on the Enrollment button on the left side of the home page. Forms will also be available at the Registration Fair.
Individual school sites do not handle enrollment, but representatives of each school with primary grades will be at the Registration Fair on the school’s assigned day to meet children and parents and guardians and answer questions. The Registration Fair will be open in the Flanders Rooms and lobby of the Civic Center from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on the following schedule:
Monday, April 8: Beaver Run Elementary, Pemberton Elementary
Tuesday, April 9: Delmar Elementary, Westside Primary, Northwestern Elementary
Wednesday, April 10: Charles H. Chipman Elementary, West Salisbury Elementary, Prince Street Elementary
Thursday, April 11: Fruitland Primary, Willards Elementary, Pinehurst Elementary
Friday, April 12: For any family unable to register on their assigned day
Any parent or guardian who is not able to enroll a child during the Registration Fair should come to the Enrollment Services and Accountability Office starting April 15. The office is open Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and is located in Annex 4 of the Board of Education Office, off Mt. Hermon Road. 410-677-4438 or 410-677-4479.

Ask principals and parents how well the centralized enrollment at the board worked last year. How many kids got no placement letters in August and weren't even entered in the board data base? Colossal waste of money to rent the Civic Center and principals have to leave their schools to go to the Civic Center on their day. Parents from outlying areas have to drive past their kids school to travel miles to the Civic Center. One of the worst ideas ever. Let parents register kids at the school they're going to attend.
As a retired Principal with WCBOE, the comment posted on 3-11-13 at 9:28 p.m. Is entirely accurate. The original rationale was to reduce paperwork and ease stress on the schools, but I fear this has been made much more difficult for families of young children. When I enrolled my child 20 years ago, the process was certainly not perfect, but was directly attended to by the schools. It is noteworthy that as budget issues are discussed, the cost analysis for this particular situation is not in the best interest of taxpayers or children.
Respectfully,
Paladin
