Young Veterans Struggle For Employment

Younger veterans are struggling to find employment after their military career ends. The unemployment rate for veterans between 18 and 24 was more than 20 percent last year. And in double digits for those 25-34. Both rates are higher than their non-veteran job seekers, despite a wide range of private and public efforts to help veterans find work. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Hiring Our Heroes program, two things younger veterans can do to help themselves is do a better job explaining to employers how the skills they learned in the military translate to the private sector and move to where the jobs are.

Sounds to me like their unemployment rate exactly matches everybody in the U.S.'s unemployment rate. Are they a different class of people? Are they "More Equal" than I? Why divide them into a separate class and show preference to one over the other? It's nothing but a career path that they voluntarily chose. I appreciate what they have done for us, but it in no way qualifies them for a job over my experience. Employers need skilled workers in each field, and only when that field matches a soldier's experience level (pilot, truck driver, etc.) should he be preferred for a job.
Get over yourselves.

Vets are considered 'more equal'. They will get a state or federal job over the average joe just because, not on whether they are really qualified for the job. I believe they should drop the vet points and determine their qualifications based on their ability to do the job. Too many vets in jobs, are they mentally stable? So many vets are coming home now with emotional issues that could be detrimental in many jobs, but no give them the job. Yes they have served their country and need jobs. Just make sure they can handle the responsibility after the things they have seen and done on the battlefields that are now part of their lives.

So sad after fighting in a useless war to come home to Obama's America.
