OCEAN CITY -- The boards in Ocean City will once again be flooded with pink this April when the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure returns to the resort town for its second year.
Despite dismal weather conditions, the debut Race for the Cure in Ocean City last year was a big win for both the town and the fight against breast cancer, according to Race and Development Coordinator Margo Mandes.
“In total we raised just over $351,000,” she said during a pre-race press conference last Friday. “Seventh-five percent of the net proceeds go to fund local grant programs that provide education, screening, treatment, and support services.”

Komen spends far more supporting it's employees rather than spending on research. The director makes over $400,000 a year. No thanks I will donate my money elsewhere.
Komen , just like most other Celebrity "non-profits" are nothing but tax free boondoggles where the staff and board of directors get hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary and very little manages to get through to the persons that the non profit are supposed to raise money for. Have you seen any new breakthroughs in breast cancer treatment or a significant reduction in the mortality rate? No, even though Komen has been in "business" for over 30 YEARS. Give your money to local churches, Salvation Army or Wounded Warriors!!!!!
We would see a significant reduction in the cancer rates if the USDA/FDA and politicans stopped protecting Big Agri business and the food industry. The answer lies in the over processed, drug/chemical laden, gentically altered and modified stuff we eat in this country that's called "food." The problem is not many politicians have the guts to take on big corporations.
I did not realize how many men had breast cancer until a big group of them came on TV the other night. As more and more men get breast cancer there will be a legitimate reason to find a cure.
