O'Malley Joins NAACP In Call To End Death Penalty

It’s time to kill the death penalty, Gov. Martin O’Malley and the national president of the NAACP said Tuesday.

“The death penalty does not work in terms of preventing violent crime,” O’Malley said, pointing to the high rate of violent crime in states where the death penalty is more commonly used.

“Conversely, over these last several years, we have been doing the things that work,” he said, pointing to a drop in violent crime in Maryland in the past seven years, even though the state hasn’t had any executions since 2005.

O'Malley do you even have a clue or are you another political robot? Why with all the real issues going on in Maryland are you worried about fixing something that’s not broke and hasn't been used in about 8 yrs. DNA has come a long way and the accusations that the NAACP (Black KKK)are making are just that. Wake up, hate exist only because groups like this continue to profit from it.

I'm not sure that it is time to "kill" the death pentaly! Mr. Leggs for example, needs not to live. The little girl he killed must have suffered terribly before she died. Jody is another man that death sentence was justice. These are two white men, so, it is not just a racist thing.

Sadly, people can not understand the closer of the death penalty brings to victims or their families.

They also do not understand the cost of the death sentence (carried out) versus a lifetime of incarceration.

I for one have no problems with the death penalty other than they don't do often enough. I really don't care if they are black or white, crime is crime. It is a shame that the black community can not understand this.

I would think it would be more cost effective to have the death penalty than to have the person serving a life sentence. The cost of food, medical expense, transportation expense to and from courts, etc., counsel fees, etc.,etc.,etc. While I believe everyone black, white, or anyother color should be afforded a fair and honest trial, when the DNA evidence condems the person, then move on.

O'Malley you don't have a clue! Why do you think the NAACP wants to abolish the death penalty? cause a huge percentage of the population in prisons is black. Yes it cost more to have them on death row because it takes so long to get the job done, meanwhile we are fattening the lawyers pocket. Now with DNA they know and if they are proven guilty with DNA and Jury then they should be given a date for execution. These people that rape children or adults and murder etc are CRIMINALS! They do not get rehabilitated and IF they get out they are pretty certain to do it again! When they get sentenced to the death penalty give them the death penalty because they deserve it!

In the past...I'm not certain of today...but when an inmate was leaving prison they did an exit interview and even if that inmate threatened to kill someone they could not keep him. So everyone who worked to put him in jail was a target in the end. I hope that has changed.
