NFL Player Matt Birk: Same Sex Marriage ‘Unfair To Children’

NFL player and Minnesota native Matt Birk has become the latest member of the Baltimore Ravens to weigh in on the issue of marriage equality.
“It’s unfair to childen if we don’t make every effort to stand up for their rights, to be known and loved by their mother and their father whenever possible,” he said in a video produced by the Minnesota Catholic Conference. “While divorce, death and other circumstances too often prevent it, no child should be intentionally deprived of knowing their mother and their father. If we allow genderless marriage to be made law, the implication is that the contributions of part of our community, either men or women, are somehow insignifcant and less valuable.”
“I can put up with a lot from the government like higher taxes and while I don’t like it, pushing God out of public schools, but letting a small number of business and government elites and judges define what marriage is for Minnesotans doesn’t seem very fair and doesn’t make a lot of sense,” Birk added.

lol, me thinks someone has taken too many blows to the head.
"no child should be intentionally deprived of knowing their mother and their father"

So are you saying that it is the gay community's fault that the adoption system in the US is packed with kids who were "deprived of knowing their mother and their father"?

And no one, absolutely no one, is forcing any private citizen to redefine their view of marriage. Believe what you will. And remember gays have the same right and legal protections to believe as they do.

So many children raised by their mother and father in their home? What's he doing about the children of opposite sex parents brought up by one parent or grandparents....any non conventional home.

If you want kids, then you shouldn't be in a gay marriage!
Give me a break...you can't have it all and you can't have it both ways!
My daughter is gay and she's fully aware that I'm AGAINST gay marriage!
I'm in favor of civil unions, but NOT marriage!

Your delusional. Allowing same sex marriages absolutely make any citizen redefine what marriage is.duh!

6:23-Completely untrue---- the "adoption system" in the US is not packed full with children awaiting adoption. Unlike 50 years ago children born to single mothers are now kept by the single mothers. Nowadays adoption agencies and Social Service agencies choose to place children with the very best educated and stable parents and if you dont' meet that criteria it is hard to get a child.
It's rare that gay parents are adopting within the US.

So if 2 gay people get married you feel that the definition of your marriage has changed somehow? Maybe your marriage wasn't that strong to begin with. I think that a marriage should be what happens in a church. A union should be the legal term whether you are 2 men, 2 women, or a 'traditional' couple.
