Beef Products Inc. sued ABC News, Inc. for defamation Thursday over its coverage of a meat product that critics dub "pink slime," claiming the network damaged the company by misleading consumers into believing it is unhealthy and unsafe.
The Dakota Dunes, S.D.-based meat processor is seeking $1.2 billion in damages for roughly 200 "false and misleading and defamatory" statements about the product officially known as lean, finely textured beef, said Dan Webb, BPI's Chicago-based attorney.
The lawsuit filed in a South Dakota state court also names several individuals as defendants, including ABC news anchor Diane Sawyer and the Department of Agriculture microbiologist who coined the term "pink slime."

Check out the documentary Food Inc. That pink slime stuff is gross. Since it's safe we should at least be informed on the ingredients list so we can decide whether we want to eat a product or not (hmmmmm just like GMOs)
It is pink slime. I delivered it to Chitcago for them to make it into hot dogs.
Most people have no idea what they are eating and/or where it came from or what it contains.
In my instance, it was chicken WASTE that was shipped to make hot dogs.
You are indeed what you eat. As evidenced by most people you meet on the street, or anywhere else.
BUT, we have much more pressing problems than this.
Pretty soon, when the people get hungry enough, they won't care about this, or much anything else, as long as they have SOMETHING to eat.
Pink slime aggravates irritable bowel syndrone and possible even causes it. I've heard this years ago. The doctors were calling it "filler" not pink slime and said it was ground up gristle which reeks havoc on the digestive system since it wasn't digestable for humans.
