Wicomico Schools Prepare To Open Aug. 27: What’s New For The 2012-13 School Year

It’s almost time for the start of the 2012-13 school year in Wicomico County Public Schools. Here are a few things new and of note for the upcoming school year.

SCHOOL OPENS: Wicomico County Schools will hold open houses Aug. 21-24 in preparation for the opening of the 2012-13 school year on Monday, Aug. 27, for most students*.

*Please note that students in grades 1-6 and grade 9 will attend school on Aug. 27. (Exceptions: All grades will attend at Pittsville Elementary and Middle, and only grade 6
will attend at Mardela Middle and High.) All students in grades 1-12 will be in school Tuesday, Aug. 28. During the first week, kindergarten and prekindergarten students will report as scheduled by the assigned school.

CONSISTENT ATTIRE PROGRAM: The Consistent Attire Program (CAP) will be piloted in nine elementary schools this school year. CAP is in place for students of Beaver Run, Charles H. Chipman, Delmar, North Salisbury, Pemberton, Pinehurst, Prince Street, West Salisbury and Wicomico Early Learning Center (WELC). Parents in these schools received CAP details from the schools, and information has been available on each school’s web page as well as at www.wcboe.org. A program on the Consistent Attire Program has been airing on PAC 14 (upcoming airtimes include Wednesday 7:12 a.m. and 8:32 p.m., Thursday 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Saturday 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The program may also be viewed at any time on the PAC 14 website through the Video on Demand feature; click on Video on Demand at www.pac14.org, then click on Education to view the CAP show.

The consistent attire program should be in the middle schools and the high schools.

CAP should not exist. Someone explain to me how it's voluntary if when you choose not to follow it, your child can face expulsion.

It would have been a huge deal with the middle and high schoolers and an even bigger deal to try to enforce. That's where it's needed, though.

Its not voluntary only at east Salisbury and glen ave do the children not have to wear uniforms. And I agree it should be middle and high school what do elementary kids do wrong, these are the years they are learning to dress themselves but yet they are being told what to wear how do they learn from this
