The crab derby will be happening in Crisfield, but Handy will do the crab cake at he state fair? All about the money and exposure.

The Worlds Largest Crab Cake project (this is the third large crab cake we have done) was created as a fund raiser project! The monies raised from selling the sandwiches will be donated to the Maryland 4-H Foundation. The 2009 record benefitted Maryland Special Olympics and the 2006 record benefitted The United Way of Delaware. Yes, Handy does get exposure for the event, but it is in no way a Handy "for profit" project. From what I have been told, Handy has offered to hold a crab cake event at both The J. Millard Tawes Clam Bake and The Hard Crab Derby and we were told that there was no interest from either event. The Maryland State Fair organizers were more than happy to host this record breaking event and I was more than satisfied with the selection of the Maryland 4-H Foundation as the beneficiary. I also made the recommendation of using domestic crab meat that we sourced from Smith Island. I personally "plugged" Crisfield MD and the Handy employees in making this project possible.
