Welcome To The Opportunity Shop

The parking enforcement people have been waiting in the shadows this morning just waiting for the Opportunity Shop to swing their doors.

I guess Mayor Ireton will drive everyone to the Parking Garage no matter what it takes. What a shame.

This is simply ridiculous. Can't even go to the Opportunity Shop to save a buck, cause the police will get you for parking. No wonder no one goes downtown and all businesses move from down there. Why don't they try being people friendly?

The downtown parking situation is unfriendly to the elderly and the handicapped. Who in their right mind is going to want to go downtown in this heat and walk around with their oxygen tank?

Is that the lot he wants to sell?

Anonymous said...

Do you see them around on other days writing tickets?

Shame on our Town for letting this happen over and over again.

Just sell us down the river Jim Boy!

Sad state of affairs we are in.

This is why we should have free parking!

Don't let Jim get away with this Joe. Keep up the fight and you will win.

Joe, is he writing tickets because people are not feeding the meters? Or is it a permit only parking lot? Just curious! I know the only time we go is on Saturdays if my hubby needs a haircut and I know parking is free on that day.

Being one that walks with a walker or cane myself, I agree on one hand they speak of trying to revitalize downtown and on the other they show how difficult they make it.

our city of salisbury is not user friendly. i love going to berlin, snow hill and pocomoke and several places in virginia and delaware...

this makes a lot of sense...the kind of folks who shop at the Opportunity Shop have no money to pay tickets and are probably unlikely to do so, anyway....

What's the point of running for mayor of this disgusting dirty, ugly mean-spirited lower class dump of a town, anyway? You have to be a fool if you think it can be saved.

Why is he writing tickets? Are there parking meters there, or is it a permit only parking lot? Thanks for your time!

Trying to place all the blame on the failures of downtown revitalization is not the fault of this council.

We've had some good council people in the past that have tried for years with no success. This wasn't easy even when the economy was much, much better. It's taken decades to get to where it is now.

All the news conferences and negitive publicity about Salisbury politics, doesn't make it any more appealing I might add.

This has been a very long term problem and the blame can't be placed on anyone in office today.

I see some progress, a new business here, a new business there. It might not be the progress we'ed like to see, however in this economy, it is, no less, some progress.

Palmer Gillis was a council person, it's not his fault downtown has failed. At least he is trying to help get something started and plans more building downtown.

We all need to put this negitivity behind, move on and try to support downtown any way that we can.

Government, in all forms, is supposed to be for the people and by the people....yet, in almost all cases, those in or employed by the government are adversarial by nature to the people. This is all governments from local through the federal.

When are we going to take OUR government back?

We want free parking!

why dont you all just carpool and stop getting tickets?

You are one of the reasons why we don't control our government anymore

There are only two stores left in that little area - the wonderful Market Street Books and the Opportunity shop.
With a little help from the city, maybe those two will close down also.

don't blame me for your laziness

Can someone please answer the question that two other posters have also asked? Are people getting tickets because they aren't feeding the meters, or is this a permit only parking lot?
