MD Lt. Gov. Discusses Gun Laws In Wake of CO Shooting

Lt. Gov. Brown was on WBAL-TV this morning.  Of the state's gun laws, he said, "We require that someone show good and substantial reason to own a gun."

While that law is being challenged in court he said, "We think it's a good standard.

We think it's a good filter."

While he acknowledged no law can prevent someone from obtaining a gun legally and committing an illegal act, he believes, "Applying standrads like good and substantial will help filter out, I think, bad actors from owning and possessing guns."

Sounds to me like the lt governor is confusing the process to buy a gun with the process to obtain a permit to carry. Also the "enough ammo for, like, a small army I doubt considering a soldier carries at least 210 rounds for a rifle.

Why should we have to show a substantial reason to exercise our constitutional right? The state should be forced to show a substantial reason why they deny someone their express rights, not the other way around.

No you dont idiot! But you make it quite clear we need FILTERS to keep idiots like you from obtaining gov jobs......you have no clue what the "good and substantial" is even about......and clearly youve never read the US Constitution either!!!
FRAUD!!!!

If someone wants a gun to do illegal things with, they will get that gun no matter what the law says. The laws only prevent law abiding citizens from getting guns. The more people that are armed and licensed to carry, the less likely things of this nature are to happen. If someone in that theater had a concealed carry permit, this may have had a completely different outcome.

either brown has no clue what he is talking about OR, he is telling us that he really thinks that citizens need a good and substantial reason to OWN a firearm., not carry one.

Now Lt. Gov. Brown. Tell me the difference between a "good and substantial politician". Your job, if you have forgotten, is to represent the people who elected you, and 98% of Americans believe in the Constitution. Why don't you just stick your head in O'Malleys office and talk about things you understand like gay marriage or in State tuition for illegals. What a dimwhit you are!

This guy doesn't even know our own state law here in MD! I just bought a handgun and a thousand rounds at Gander Mountain and was NOT required to give ANY reason whatsoever in order to get it! Maryland does however, wants those who are applying for a permit to carry concealed weapons to show a "good and substantial" reason, however, as subjective as that is, that requirement is under challenge as unconstitutional.

Get your facts straight BEFORE opening your mouth, Lt Gov!

Here's your good and substantial reason...the 2nd amendment.

Fools like him are my "good and substantial" reason to own, carry and use a gun of my personal choice.

Get over it seriously people... we have more to worry about...

Plus this isn't the first and won't be the last...

You will see from now until Obama wins election that the govt stopped terrorist attacks yet its funny how none were stopped or found out the past 2 years... They will also make a situation as to where they will take your rights away, like the fast and furious and the U.N treaty... They will work to take that away from us until those type of nut jobs are all dead or they get what they want, which is no guns in america...

This is the exact proof someone needs to prove that you need guns to stop guns because the govt thinks gun kills people instead of people killing people... Just like corporations pay taxes which is wrong... its people who work for the corporation who pay the taxes... the corporation isn't a living thing...

You see, you have to LOOK AT THE WORDS and the MEANING... god this is america the dumbest place on earth next to being dumb as dirt...

Obamaand Eric Holder organized this incident in Colorado to disarm the United States Citizens!

I think Beown and Omallry need to rethink their duties about the retirement liabilities instesd of gun laws.

12:30 You might not be far off with your statement. After all, the Democrats many times said Bush knew about 911 before it happened.

Piss poor, pre-election media hype. No decisions need to be made other than to go hug a neighbor. Gun control will not stop killing sprees and gun rights will not either, kindness will.

2:19 Yup, the kind of kindness and respect everyone exhibits when they may be armed.

Good and substantial reason? How about the origional reason for the second amendment-(paraphrasing)"A well armed militia being necessary to prevent a tyrannical government from seizing power". As usual, our liberal politicians are the most ignorant among us.

no amt of control legislation can control what a person does with a gun, whether it's illegal or not. red flags should certainly be raised in some legal transactions. for example purchase of 6000 rounds of ammo.

The more people that own and carry guns the less crime there will be.... and sorry if you get shot doing something illegal or say walk into a theater full of people and start to try shooting a crowd your gonna get dropped before you even get the chance..... Everyone should own and carry a firearm for their own safety
