Did I Say Iran?

Seventeen-year-old girl In Iran may go to jail for naming her rapists. Did I say Iran? I meant Kentucky

Kentucky teen faces charge for naming attackers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP)
-- A 17-year-old Kentucky girl who was upset by the plea deal reached by a pair of teenagers who sexually assaulted her is now facing a contempt charge for tweeting their names in violation of a court order.

Savannah Dietrich of Louisville told The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/NEcirr ) she is frustrated by what she feels is a lenient deal for her attackers. After posting the names on Twitter, Dietrich wrote, "I'm not protecting anyone that made my life a living Hell."

The Associated Press does not normally report the names of sexual assault victims, but Dietrich and her parents say they do not want to shield her identity and want her case to be public.

The boys' attorneys have asked a judge to hold Dietrich in contempt for violating the confidentiality of a juvenile hearing and the judge's order not to speak about it.

Dietrich told the paper she was assaulted in August 2011 by two boys she knew when she passed out after drinking at a gathering. She learned months later that pictures of the assault were taken and shared with others.

"For months, I cried myself to sleep. I couldn't go out in public places," she told the newspaper, as her father and attorneys sat nearby. "You just sit there and wonder, who saw (the pictures), who knows?"

I don't care if the rapist's are 11 years old.
They should lose all rights to privacy.
The judge should be held in contempt of the people.

In my opinion, I believe the juveniles name(s) should be made public once sentencing has taken place. This puts others on alert to watching over children and whatever group they like to attack. This could possibly cut down on repeat offenders.

Sometimes you break the law you go to jail.

It is what it is, it's like killing someone who murdered a family member....although it is understandable it is a violation of the law.

1:15...Would you still say that if it were your daughter?

Agree with 12:16.

@2:16, I do not agree with the outcome but the law is what it states. Her parents didn have to blast her name all over the place either. Two wrongs don't make a right, am I correct.

No, she didn't. If you read the article, you'd know she and her family were never informed of a plea deal and was not consulted at all. She found out about it when the rest of the courtroom (aside from the lawyers and perps) found out.

She did nothing wrong, was the victim of a crime, and is now being told if you tell others you were the victim of a crime and who committed that crime, YOU will go to jail.

How much sense does that make?

Thank goodness for JURY NULLIFICATION, if it comes to that, for this girl.

We have become a nation of laws, without common sense.

We kick God out of everything, schools, court houses, etc.

You can't have MORALS without God.

And we suffer the consequences.

I guess in Kentucky it's legal for a 17 year old to get so drunk at a party she passes out? She's at an underage drinking party! THERE ARE RISKS HERE! DON'T pass out on your back, you might get raped!!!!

Or am I wrong to bring her own crime to light... you know, the one SHE committed first?

she did know. she says it in her interview. she says, they got off too easy, thats why she did it. then she tweeted that she wasnt supposed to tweet their names, but shes going to do it anyway so they "can come lock her up".
in addition, after further review, this is the same girl that drunk herself stupid at a party invited everyone, then passed out. then she got mad that everyone accepted the 'invitation'. her biggest problem was the guys took pictures of her passed out and she was afraid the pictures would get passed out NOT the fact that she was 'assaulted'.
