my parents. school teachers are overated and do not respect the PEOPLE that PAY their salary. I grow weary of being told to honor and respect them for what they do. THAT is B.S. They dont stand in front of bullets and cannon fire and put their lives near bomb makers and so forth. how about we honor those men.

1:05 - You are an idiot.

Teachers put their lives at risk every day with today's youth. The classroom is a battleground full of gangs, students with mental disabilities and/or violent tendencies, kids who have parents that think they are angels, kids who have parents who don't give a damn, students who don't give a damn. Kids having babies in MIDDLE SCHOOL and kids who are drug/alcohol users or drug dealers. These are NOT the classrooms of our generation. Classrooms are also the battleground of politics and stupid laws that put the teacher into the middle between the parents and the administrators. Gone is corporal punishment, respect, knowing a "time and place" and expulsion. The laws prevent teachers from taking the actions of the past, essentially putting the KIDS in charge of the classroom because the office and/or parents won't back them up. Kids who want to learn and teachers who truly want to teach are today's DISADVANTAGED population. At least when you're on the front lines in the line of fire you can act with impunity if you act with good judgement. Teachers' hands are TIED.

While your parents are, indeed, supposed to be your best teachers, many kids don't have that benefit so it falls to the classroom teacher to fight against the environmental mess they grow up in.

How bout you put your a** in front of a classroom and have ELEMENTARY kids cuss at you, throw furniture, fight with a classmate or throw a punch at you. How bout you send them to the office only to have them sent back to the classroom with a slap on the wrist? How bout you drive home and later that night that student and his *possee* are waiting for you when you come home from dinner with your spouse and kids ready to show you who runs the show.

Moron. (With all due respect to the members of our military who protect our country!)

You wonder why your kids do not learn in school. They have parents who are even more unintelligent acting like this. Blame the teachers for your lack of parenting and effort. Someone has to shoulder the blame might as well make it the teachers who basically babysit anymore because they cant do anything to your children without fearing a lawsuit. The lack of education is so blatantly evident it is disgusting to read.

Vicky McLain. A selfless, loving, and kind teacher. So popular (and so good) that, at her funeral service, people were turned away for lack of space. The kind of teacher that kids will remember for the rest of their lives. Taken from this world way too soon, at 42 years old. RIP, my love....

I can't narrow to just one choice. It would be a tie between Mr. Harris and Mr. Mike Golnick at Parkside. Both very down to earth guys that taught as much about respect as they did in their chosen fields
