The Ride Of A Lifetime For A Local Favorite In The Kentucky Derby

Done Talking is taking a longtime Maryland trainer, 3 Maryland friends and a leading Maryland jockey on the ride of a lifetime this week as the 3-year-old colt trained at Laurel Park prepares for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

"This is my first experience doing it," says Done Talking trainer Hamilton Smith, a Maryland mainstay for more than 30 years, who is saddling his first Kentucky Derby starter this week. "This is the race you want to win,. You know it's the most prestigious race in America, in the world for that matter, It's really exciting and I'm just glad to have one going."

The 67-year-old has 1,644 career winners and has conditioned runners such as Gin Talking, Case Of The Blues and Blind Date, all multiple stakes winners.

"We are going there to represent Maryland and hopefully we can make a good showing," Smith told WBAL's Scott Wykoff standing with Done Talking at his stall 33 in Smith's barn at Laurel Park.
