Verizon Wireless's tiered-pricing data plans for smart phones went into effect last July, and new customers were no longer able to sign up for unlimited plans. Existing customers who had such plans were able to hang onto them—but that's about to end, according to Verizon CFO Fran Shammo. New data we've obtained, though, suggests that most of Verizon's smart-phone subscribers don't really need unlimited data.

Yeah say that to someone who uses a gig or more of data, and tell that o them when their price changes to a higher rate because of the tired plans...
The first time they receive a bill after downloading a movie for their child...they will surely miss the unlimited.
not everyone does it all the time, but having the unlimited data is a piece if mind for me.
Data usage is only going up. While this looks like a non-issue now, it won't be as Americans become more sophisticated in their use of smartphones.
I'm glad the ATT-Tmo merger wasn't approvied. Even with 4 carriers, there isn't enough competition to drive down pricing for all consumers. It makes me wonder if there is any collusion going on.
