No and OC shouldn't offer to spend taxpayer money on a personal pet. This is rediculous.
yes. and if he doesn't PERSONALLY want the money perhaps he could donate it to that K-9 group you posted about the other day to "pay it forward" for another retired 4 legged officer who needs help.
Once again JT makes the first comment. You know how I know why, because he never reads the stories. Charlie is not a personal pet a-hole. He's a recently retired Officer who was employed by Ocean City. You never cease to surprise me JT, never.
no he gave up his right when he resigned from the force. He did not do right resigning with an e-mail or contact the city with an e-mail when charlie was in pain. Perhaps the city was wrong but Earl was also.

Yes, Mr Campbell should take the money to reimburse himself for a debt legitimately owed by OCPD. Charlie was an Officer and his partner did not want him to wait for appropriate care.
Yes he should, it should be considered payment due for services rendered by Charlie over the years.

While I understand that your sole driving force behind publicizing Charlie's treatment was to bring attention the the OCPD's treatment of it's four-legged OFFICERS, I do believe you should accept the Council's offer to reimburse you for his care. We (the public), know the real deal and would not see this as you sacrificing your morals or ideals. Please, accept the money and if you personally don't want it, then find a worthy K-9 organization to donate it to OR establish an interest-bearing fund in Charlie's name to help the next K-9 officer who may face the horrendous decision you did. The Eastern Shore is an ideal place to open a K-9 training/retirement center too! (hint-hint) May God bless you and your family and I wish you well in whatever career you may choose to pursue.

I think he should donate it to a rescue shelter.
The first commenter was right, the dog is a personal pet now. He is a retired K9 officer but is now legally a personal companion and personal property.
However, my answer is yes. Should be retiree health benefits for the dog, even if he is a personal pet he served the city for so long and deserves to live a comfortable life. To have to spend this much is uncommon, but all retired K9s should be supported.

Yes I do think he should accept the money. He may not need it right now but who knows if Charlie might need other things in the future. Take it and put it away for a rainy day. If it's never needed then you can donate it to the K-9 group that helps other dogs.
Absolutely, take it. The only reason they are doing it is because of this attention. They would really ever give it, so take it.
Earl, If you can't/won't use this money for yourself, donate it to a K-9 fund. Buy equipment for other departments K-9. Use the bad to make the good. I agree the money would not be coming if this attention wasn't on it. Find an agency and buy them a K-9. I know some agencies in the area just lost some a couple K-9.
