running with electric only probably more efficient, even if charged by a portable generator. the on-board gas engine when driving is probably less efficient.

how do you think electricity is made? by using gasoline-fueled turbines a lot of times. brilliant.
Times must be pretty TOUGH in Fla for drivers to go through this EXTREMELY time-consuming task to save a few pennies on gasoline & then run the risk of their generator being stolen.
